Dear LISTOS Speaker,
Thank you for your interest in the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) and our inaugural National Center for LMSA Leadership & Advancement. This initiative aims to provide physicians, faculty members, staff, and healthcare professionals with resources for their continual development as leaders in medicine.
The LMSA Instruction, Support, Training & Orientation Session for Advisors (LISTOS) was developed to create unity among medical trainees, faculty advisors, and healthcare professions with the goal of promoting the recruitment, retention, and promotion of Hispanic & Latina/o/x individuals in medicine.
LISTOS aims to ensure our advisors are prepared and trained on an annual basis in order to effectively guide future leaders of medicine. In discussing and adopting best practices for advisors, we all move closer to a field in which we are well-represented and valued for our unique contributions to medicine.
The August 2024 LISTOS will address the following learning objectives;
- Describe current challenges facing Latina/Latino/Latinx, Hispanic and/or of Spanish Origin + (LHS+) identified pre-medical and medical students;
- Examine the roles that advisors play in the personal, professional, and academic development of LHS+ pre-medical and medical students;
- Discuss promising and best practices for advising and supporting LHS+ identified pre-medical and medical students;
- Evaluate strategies for leveraging LMSA-related work for advisor career advancement; and
- Plan successful programming and initiatives consistent across the national, regional, and chapter levels of LMSA.
The August 2024 LISTOS session will take place virtually on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will be provided.
