    Know your client's civil rights: 
    Thank you for your partnership in the fight against hunger. You are making a difference in the lives of those in need in our community who need assistance to keep nourishing food on the table. The Houston Food Bank is grateful that our volunteers serve each client with the dignity they deserve. We are required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to ensure that all agency clients are informed and aware of their civil rights while they are being served. You can be our eyes and ears by helping us identify any instances in which a client is subject to harassment or discrimination. The Houston Food Bank will not tolerate harassment or discrimination by any individual.  

    What is discrimination? Discrimination is the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people. USDA prohibits discrimination based on these things: 


    ● Race  ● Color  ● National Origin  ● Sex ● Religious Creed ● Disability  ● Age  

    ● Political Beliefs ● Reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity

  • USDA Non-Discrimination Statement
    Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) state or local agencies, and their subrecipients, must post the following Nondiscrimination Statement:
    In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), religious creed, disability, age, political beliefs, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.
    Program information may be made available in languages other than English.     To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: https://www.usda.gov/ sites/default/files/documents/ad-3027.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (833) 620-1071, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to:

  • MINOR LIABILITY WAIVER

    FOR VOLUNTEERS AGED 17 AND YOUNGER.

    PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.


    By signing below,I , on behalf of myself and the named minor, our respective personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kind (collectively, the “Releasing Parties”), do hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless All Brothers In Christ, Houston Scrap Metal Recycle Center, Houston Food Bank, its employees, volunteers or Agents (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions or causes of action, or any kind of nature, arising out of or related to any damage, illness or injury, regardless of severity, resulting from the performance of the named minor’s assigned duties as a volunteer ("Claims").  On behalf of myself and the Releasing Parties, I hereby expressly waive any right of action against the Released Parties relating to or arising from any Claim in consideration of the named minor’s participation as a volunteer for All Brothers In Christ located at Houston Scrap Metal Recycle Center. I hereby acknowledge that I know of no medical reason that would preclude the named minor from serving as a volunteer.

    It is my express intention, and the express intention of the Released Parties, this release COVERS AND RELEASES ANY AND all claims and all consequences of the acts or omissions of the Released Parties, including acts of negligence, alleged negligence, gross negligence OR INTENTIONAL ACTS, including where same are the CAUSE OR contributing cause of the claims.  To the Greatest Extent permitted by Applicable Law, ALL BROTHERS IN CHRIST, HOUSTON SCRAP METAL RECYCLE CENTER AND HOUSTON FOOD BANK SHALL NOT BE HELD LIABLE IF THE NAMED MINOR CONTRACTS COVID-19 FROM VOLUNTEERING.

    All Brothers In Christ and Houston Scrap Metal Recycle Center also have permission to use the named minor’s voice, name, likeness, photography, or videotaped image in publicity about All Brothers in Christ Organization, and its activities without additional prior notice or permission and without compensation.

    By signing below, I acknowledge that this waiver and release of liability is being agreed by me on behalf of myself and the named minor voluntarily, without coercion, duress, or undue influence and with full knowledge of its terms and effects. I agree that in the event, any clause of this waiver and release of liability shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction. The invalidity of such clauses shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions. I certify, I have reached the age of majority, have read the above waiver, release of liability, and fully understand its contents.
