Student Awards/Scholarships Application 2024
Soccer Nova Scotia is pleased to offer university entrance student awards/scholarships to outstanding members of Soccer Nova Scotia. Recipients must commence post-secondary studies at a Canadian university or college in the same year the award is presented. Applicants must be registered Soccer Nova Scotia members. Applicants will be accepted if they were registered players or referees for Summer 2023 or Winter 2023-2024.
Soccer Nova Scotia Student Awards are non-renewable entrance scholarships. Cheque payments are awarded in the name of the recipient after September 15 of the year they are awarded upon Confirmation of Enrollment and payment at a university or college. Confirmation of Enrollment and payment should be emailed to admin@soccerns.ca. The deadline to provide Confirmation of Enrollment and payment is January 31 of the following year or you may forfeit your award.
Successful recipients must agree that a photograph of themselves may be used for promotional purposes and submit a short Thank You acceptance video.
Applicants must submit online all of the following requirements:
- Completed Application
- High School Official Transcripts - Final Grade 11 and Grade 12 First Semester (September 2023 - January 2024)
- Digital colour headshot photo of themselves only for promotional purposes (i.e. grad or school photo)
- Letter(s) of Recommendation
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Successful applicants should expect to be contacted between May 27 to May 31.

- Hartlen Family Scholarship – Open to male players with strong soccer skills, strong academics, and a history of giving back through coaching and/or training of others.

- Stephenie Allt Memorial Scholarship – Open to female players exemplifying community service and the values of fairness and sportsmanship of this young, outstanding player and celebrating the activity she loved most.

- Halifax King of Donair Scholarship - Open to all members in remembrance of the twenty years King of Donair was a senior soccer club; the wins, the losses, the laughs, the road trips, the friendships made, and remembering those who are no longer with us…Billy Patterson, Mourad Farid, Co-Founder Nick Garonis, Ian Clark, Tony Eghan, and Jeff Kelleher.

- Dr. Irene Szuler Scholarship - Open to female players who demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership and truly exemplify effort, excellence, and commitment to the game of soccer. Experience with the National Team program is an asset.

- Frank H. Bailey Memorial Scholarship - Open to male players in memory of long-time Soccer Nova Scotia President, Frank Bailey.

- Robert Sayer Scholarship - Open to female players in honour of the first soccer inductee to the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame – Builder.

- VanRoy Tobitt Memorial Scholarship - Open to male referees in memory of one of the first Nova Scotia-based referees to reach National level status.

- Carol Shadbolt Scholarship - Open to female referees in honour of the first female soccer referee in Nova Scotia.

Applicants must complete all required sections of the application form. The Halifax King of Donair Essay is required only for applicants selecting the Halifax King of Donair Scholarship.
Transcripts, Letters of Reference and a headshot photo (school or grad photo) must be uploaded at the end of the application. Any certificates, additional information may be uploaded in the last upload field at the end of the application.
The application deadline is 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024.
