Topic: Nosing Around for Sport or Work:
how having fun with your dog can lead to meaningful service
(and vice versa!)
Description:
Partnering with your dog, based on its ability to discern scent, is the ultimate dog sport in that only the dog's nose really knows... we humans do our best to control scent sources or theorize about how odor moves and dissipates, but we are left to guess at what the dog actually detects. Harnessing (literally) this canine superpower is an exhilarating challenge that has the potential to save lives, and it is as humbling as it is rewarding.
Kiko Nobusawa and David Pacun got started via AKC tracking and bloodhound club trailing in 2019. They are currently training 3 dogs to SAR [search and rescue] man-trailing standards. Also joining the Zoom presentation are: SAR and HRD [human remains detection] K9 handler Jennifer Lettich-Snyder, and Melissa Stagnaro who will speak about SAR sport.
