Umpqua Valley Arts is bringing back our poster contest for the 55th Annual Summer Arts Festival! We currently have an open call to artists to submit up to three images of artwork that illustrate the spirit of the festival and use aesthetics/colors that are in line with the design elements currently being used for marketing.
There is no theme. Artists are welcome to use their imagination to submit something unique and special that embodies UVA's mission, and matches/pairs well with existing color schemes and design elements used already. These design elements include:
- A printmaking aesthetic that can be created traditionally or digitally and utilize the aesthetic of printmaking processes like linocut, screenprinting, risograph, monotype, and more.
- Subject matter that supports and showcases UVA's mission of creating and fostering a climate that supports arts appreciation and participation and embodies the spirit of the Annual Summer Arts Festival.

Submission Guidelines:
The purpose of the contest is to design a poster promoting the 55th Annual Summer Arts Festival. Poster designs will be original artwork that the applicant thinks best exemplifies the requested design elements above. The contest is open to all media with the exception of video and audio files. While a printmaking aesthetic is preferred, entrants may use alternative mediums to creatively interpret the above design elements to match/pair with existing marketing for the festival. Submissions must be in JPG format, 300dpi, 1920px on longest side. The deadline for all entries is on May 3rd, 2024.
Artwork Selection:
Artwork will be selected by a panel consisting of Umpqua Valley Arts Staff, Gallery Committee, and/or others including local art professionals and community representatives that embrace UVA's mission and the philosophy and goals of the festival. Artwork will be selected using guidelines and considerations that include (but are not limited to):
- The quality of the work meets UVA and festival standards. Considerations for quality include (but are not limited to) skills in craftsmanship, creative ability, ingenuity, and design skills.
- All of the work is original and does not include designs, content, images, and/or objects that are copyrighted and/or belong to another artist/entity.
Artwork Use:
After selection, UVA will convert the artwork/design to a digital file that will then be used for marketing purposes. These marketing purposes include (but are not limited to) website, social media, posters, apparel, postcards, program information, collateral, press release, signage and other communication mediums. Selected artwork may be slightly altered, cropped, or edited for formatting purposes and to accommodate pertinent Festival information where applicable.
Award:
The winning artists will be awarded a $200 prize along with a free Summer Arts Festival T-Shirt, free entry into the festival, and credit on all digital/physical postings of the resulting marketing materials (either on the image or in text where applicable).
