CERVICAL SCREENING EDUCATION FOR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS, NURSES & MIDWIVES June 14, 2024 10am-2pm
HPV & Pap Test Competency Workshop for Primary Care Physicians, Nurse & Midwives (CME accredited)
The South West Regional Cancer Program is offering an in-person, hands on learning session to provide nurses, physicians and midwives with the knowledge and skills to carry out cervical screening that adheres to Ontario’s cervical screening guidelines. The education will be provided by Dr. Rob DiCecco, Regional Cervical Screening and Colposcopy Lead in the South West, in conjunction with Dr. Nathan Roth, Regional Cervical Screening and Colposcopy Lead in the Central East. The session will include didactic learning and medical simulation training. The training will be held at the Middlesex London Health Unit, located at CitiPlaza in London, Ontario. Lunch included.
Learning Objectives
1. Explain complex cervical screening pathways and identify the appropriate patient referral process. 2. Perform a speculum exam and Pap smear test, while identifying normal and abnormal female pelvic anatomy. 3. Describe HPV vaccines as a prevention method for HPV, and liquid based cytology and HPV testing as a mode of cervical screening.
Session Objectives
1. Describe the natural history of cervical cancer 2. Explain HPV, HPV Testing & the HPV vaccine 3. Name the criteria for the OCSP program 4. Describe the proper steps to perform a Pap Test 5. Identify normal versus abnormal Pap test results 6. Identify complex cervical screening pathways 7. Demonstrate how to perform a Pap smear, following proper technique and clinical guidelines

Registration fees for a total of $100.00 (CAD) will be collected to cover costs of the resources utilized at St. Joseph Health Care London’s colposcopy clinic. Interested participants are encouraged to speak to their respective primary care practice (e.g. Family Health Team) to cover the cost of this learning session.
