WHAT'S HAPPENING?
We've seen regular articles over the past few years comparing the real estate market and policies in British Columbia with that of New Zealand.
B.C. could learn from New Zealand city's housing policy: BCREA
New Zealand looks to reform zoning in cities. Could a similar move help ease B.C.’s housing crisis?
Famous New Zealand study may not actually show mass upzoning works
Should B.C. follow New Zealand’s foreign buyer ban?
British Columbia shares many similarities with New Zealand, from population density and supply constraints, to foreign investment and policy responses. We also share challenges such as preserving natural beauty, addressing climate change, navigating the implications of technology (AI), and all within the context of a prominent neighbour (US and Australia, respectively).
These similarities are also contrasted with unique histories, responses to recent issues, and even the dynamics of our respective relationships with First Nations.
What can we learn from New Zealand? Should we take these similarities and differences at face value, or make greater efforts to understand the context surrounding them?
THE IMMERSIVE LEARNING PROGRAM
The Real Estate Institute of BC is offering an Immersive Learning Program, where members have the opportunity to visit New Zealand and engage with industry counterparts, professionals and regulators in the country.
Our goal is to both learn and share ideas, perspectives and understand real estate dynamics in a deeper context. Participants will be expected to contribute to discussions, partake in events, and respect the host country's cultural practices.
A few weeks prior to travel, REIBC will be hosting a primer on New Zealand culture, business practices and even a few travel recommendations should you wish to extend your stay.
PROPOSED DATES
Official program is proposed from November 5, 2024 to November 8, 2024 in Auckland, New Zealand.
EXPECTED COSTS
MEMBERS - there will be no program fee to members of REIBC. However, travel expenses and some meals will be at the member's expense.
NON-MEMBERS are welcome to participate, however, there will be a program cost of $499.
TRAVEL COSTS
As at mid-April, roundtrip flights in economy class for early November range from $1,400 and up.
There are a variety of hotels in Auckland's city centre, ranging from $165 CAD to over $250 CAD per night for a 4-star hotel.
With sufficient interest, we will be able to secure discounted flight and hotel rates.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
We invite both members and non-members to complete this Expression of Interest, so our team can develop a program that meets your learning objectives and engages the appropriate organizations in New Zealand.
This program may also qualify for continuing education credits with your respective professional associations.
