!2023 Foster Terms and Policy
  • Thank you for applying to become a Foster Parent for Rachel's KittyCat Rescue. This form includes further information about fostering and our rescue policies.

    • Fostering for Rachel's KittyCat Rescue (KCR) can be a short or long-term commitment - the time period of fostering is entirely up to you! Fostering cat/s can be anywhere from a 6 to 8 week, 8 to 12 week, 12 to 16 week, 16 to 20 week or more commitment. This is dependant of course on the age, health, background and sociability of the cat/s - including the time and effort put into your foster cat/s.

    • Whilst we understand emergencies or accidents may happen we need your full reliability, communication and honesty in order to be a successful Foster Parent and team member. This may mean that during the time you have a foster cat, you as a Fosterer shall not abandon responsibility by going on holiday/vacation. In the case of an emergency or special event (such as a funeral or tangi) an exception can be made. Please do note we understand that emergencies or the unexpected may happen and are of course flexible about this.

    • You acknowledge that KCR is a Non-Profit Charity and your role is volunteer based.

    • Communication is key! Please upkeep open communication and a once weekly update of your Foster cat/s with your local Foster Manger.

    • KCR will supply cat food and litter for the duration of the foster period. KCR will supply any equipment you need including: Crate, carrier, litter and litterbox, bowls, towels, blankets, cat toys, flea and worm treatment, and various products if required.

    • You will need to return any and all of this equipment when it is no longer required for fostering and upkeep it to the best of your ability.

    • Please let your Foster Manager know at least 5 days prior when you require products such as food, litter, parasite treatment etc.

    • If you are happy to help in purchasing supplies you must first seek approval before sighting receipts to your Foster Manager as soon as possible. You will be reimbursed within five working days. Please make sure to supply a physical or photo GST receipt for goods purchased. Personal shopping cannot be on the receipt.

    • KCR will provide any and all required vet treatment for your Foster cat/s.

    • You must notify the Foster Manager in your area as soon as possible if your Foster cat/s become unwell, lethargic, loses weight, aren't acting their usual selves, or even if you're just worried. We will arrange for a Foster Manager to visit your Foster cat/s asap and if required we will arrange a visit our chosen vet. If you decide to use an alternative vet without prior confirmation and arrangement with your Foster Manager you may not be reimbursed.

Our preferred Vets: Valley Cottage Vets - Stokes Valley. Hutt Central Vet - Waterloo. Village Vets - Churton Park. The Vet Clinic - Masterton. After Hours: Ngauranga Vet (After 7pm weekdays and weekends)

  • • You may be required to transport your Foster cat/s to a KCR approved vet for vaccinations, health checks or treatment for illness/injury. Please note transport is not mandatory.

    • KCR will be responsible for all health and medical decisions for your Foster cat/s. You must follow the cat/s prescribed diet and chosen litter. Please chat with us if you would like to supplement the cat/kitten’s enrichment or diet with other foods or treats etc.

    • Your Foster cat/kitten must be kept strictly indoors at all times. Please keep the cat/s indoors to the best of your ability. If your Foster cat/s escape you must notify Rachel ASAP.

    • You must notify your Foster Manager if you are currently fostering, or begin fostering for another organisation or individual while you have KCR foster cat/s in care. In this case, and if agreed upon, you will need to keep KCR cat/s strictly separate from any and all other rescues Foster cats/kittens.

    • Please keep resident pets separated from any newly rescued KCR Foster cat/s for the first 2-3 weeks for the initial isolation period. If you do not adhere to this and your resident pet gets sick KCR is not liable for vet or treatment costs.

    • If you choose to mix your Foster cat/s with your own pets this is at your own risk. This includes accidental confrontations between resident and Foster cat/s. Please note that whilst KCR takes the utmost care with intake and vaccination protocols, there is always a risk that your Foster cat/s could transmit an illness or infection to another animal they come into contact with, or vice versa. This risk is increased if your pets have access to the outdoors and / or not up to date with vaccinations and booster shots.

    • Please follow the guides, tips and instructions from the KCR team in respects to the treatment and proper care and handling of your Foster cat/s. If you receive advice from another individual or volunteer please first chat with your Foster Manager before taking any action concerning your foster cat/s.

    • During the foster period the Foster Manager will need to visit your cat/s. Any required visits will take place at a suitable time to be arranged with you in advance.

    • You are more than welcome to post your Foster cat/s on social media! Please be sure to tag @Rachels KittyCat Rescue.

    • Your Foster cat/s may not be relocated or placed with any other individuals or volunteers without the permission of an KCR Trustee. If an emergency occurs or you are going away and need to arrange a pet feeder/sitter, please confirm first with your Foster Manager and provide contact details.

    • You accept you have no right to adopt any Rachel’s KittyCat Rescue Foster cat/s into new homes. If you know of someone who wants to adopt any cat/s in your volunteer Foster care you can refer them to email kittycatrehoming@gmail.com for the adoption process. Normal adoption criteria, pre approval and fees apply.

    • You are of course most welcome to apply for the adoption of any of your foster cat/s. If interested, please enquire within to your Foster Manager.

    • If these conditions are not adhered to or your Foster cat/s is deemed to be at risk of illness or harm, KCR can immediately terminate foster placement by notifying you of the KCR teams decision. The foster cat/s and all KCR belongings are then to be immediately returned. Failure to comply may result in legal and immediate police action.

    • You may at any time terminate your foster placement by notifying the Foster Manager of your decision. In this case you will need to agree to continue fostering for 14 days maximum so a suitable arrangement can be found. You must return any supplies and borrowed equipment at this time.

    • You agree to protect and maintain the privacy of other volunteers and Foster Parents, and may not share others private information without their consent.
