Documenting Contents of Home and Property
If you do not have time to grab anything, take a moment to quickly take a video and/or pictures of your valuable items. Documenting items, with photos and video, the contents of your home can save you an enormous amount of aggravation, especially with your insurance company, if insured. If you lose all or a part of your home and possessions during a disaster, emergency or burglary, you will be asked by your insurance company (if you are insured) to compile a detailed list of what you have lost. This is next to impossible to do, and no doubt there will be a lot of items left off that list. Proper documentation ensures a faster and smoother claims process and maximizes your insurance reimbursement. Did you know that you must provide documented proof of ownership to receive a settlement covering the full extent of what you lose during a disaster or emergency? According to the National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters, most policyholders do not realize that the burden of proof rests with them.
