We ask three things of each adopter:
1. Show proof of enrollment and payment for an obedience course prior to us dropping off your new friend, and demonstrate proof of completion of the same within 60 days. This will help you and your companion “speak the same language”. This person also serves as an additional resource in the future for any questions that may arise. Of course, we are always available—just drop us a line!
2. Please consider that these dogs have already lost the human lottery once: they were rescued from euthanasia due to a first owner failing to provide for them. We have poured our time and limited resources into each resident and they deserve stability for their remaining 12-15 years. If you are not able to make a 15 year commitment knowing that jobs evolve, babies are born, divorces happen, etc then please wait. Our residents have placed their faith in us and deserve to be rewarded with a lifetime of love.
3. We understand that sometimes life circumstances change in dramatic and unforeseeable ways. If, for any reason, you are no longer able to keep the companion adopted from The Dog House Rescue, we reserve the right of first refusal. Meaning, you are to contact us first and immediately upon deciding to rehome your adopted family member. We are delighted to facilitate placement with family and acquaintances. However, our friends were unlucky to experience the shelter once, and we welcome them back with open arms if tragic circumstances bring their placement to an end. (No matter how many years may have passed.)
