  • NAAB Working Committees

NAAB has a number of active committees that focus on different facets of archival monetary appraisal. NAAB committees typically meet once per month during business hours.
  • Professional Development Committee
The mandate of the Professional Development Committee is to support and enhance continuing education and training activities for NAAB. The Professional Development Committee looks to foster the development of appraisers through continuing opportunities to practice and maintain skills outside the appraisal process.

    Newsletter Committee
The Newsletter Committee is responsible with producing two issues annually with news and relevant information for PNAs. Committee members brainstorm and suggest content of interest to members, gather information about the different activities of the NAAB Board and committees, write or find interested contributors to write articles, and review the content, while keeping a publication timeline.

    Governance Committee
The Governance Committee is a new initiative proposed by the Board of Directors. This committee will review the NAAB By-laws and governance structure, including roles and responsibilities for Regional Directors and Regional Coordinators, Committee members will identify areas for improvement. If certain changes can be implemented quickly, a written vote can be passed with the membership. Otherwise, changes can be presented to members at the next Annual General Meeting.

We are looking for more volunteers to present one-hour monetary appraisal webinars. If you are interested in presenting a webinar, please answer the questions below!
  • More about the Monetary Appraisal Webinar series

These webinars are hosted by PNAs who will select archival records from their respective institutions for a monetary appraisal exercise. They are intended to be one hour in length and will involve a specific group of records, which may consist of photographs, plans, textual records, AV materials, etc. Participants provide appraisal criteria and comments based on their experience and knowledge, to foster a dialogue to enhance skills and techniques in carrying out monetary appraisals of archival records.

Participants are expected to do preparatory work, involving determining whether or not there are any sales comparables (auction sites and potential markets) and if not, what other criteria might be applied to ascertain a potential value.

Registrants will receive a finding aid for the records, including an administrative history or a biographical sketch, and other related materials in advance of the webinar. The presenter will open the webinar with a brief overview of the records and some questions to stimulate the discussion.
