We are currently looking for 1 part time barista;
estimated 3 shifts/18 hours a week, potential for more in the future.

Emerson Ave Coffee is a specialty coffee shop and book shop nestled in the heart of South Utica. Our core values are grounded in community, the pursuit of excellence, presentation, collaboration, and creativity.

We do not believe in the outdated idea that being a barista is "unskilled labor", and we treat this role with the respect and dedication it deserves, and we expect our team to take it seriously as well. If working in specialty coffee is the right fit, it can be one of the most rewarding jobs (in my unbiased opinion). It is social, creative, meditative, and you immerse yourself in the community in ways that few other similar jobs do. Because we are a small team, we also try our best to make sure everyone on the team has a voice and feels like an active collaborator.

It is also a lot of physical labor - you have to be ok with being on your feet for long stretches at a time, lunches/breaks are typically considered "working lunches" depending on the shift/if you're working alone, and because we are a very small team all team members are expected to have essentially a shift manager level of responsibility. You must be able to lift and move heavy boxes, and have good multi-tasking skills. Sometimes shifts are slower and you can pace yourself; but often and especially as we grow, we are working in a fast paced envrionment where you're expected to not only serve customers but re-stock, make syrups, process cold-brew, etc.


Pay/Perks:

- Pay starts at $16/hr plus tips, goes up to $17 an hour once training is complete

Barista Duties + Responsibilities:

This list is not all inclusive but should give you an idea of what to expect.

- Preparing and serving drinks and baked goods to specialty coffee industry standards
- Operating the POS, ringing up customers, running reports/counting the drawer
- Customer service! Providing a warm, welcoming and efficient experience for customers. 
- Washing dishes/bussing tables/cleaning of equipment, taking out trash, washing windows, etc
- Restocking self serve area, cups, grab and go, syrups, milk, etc.
- Recieiving and putting away deliveries
- Making all house made syrups


Requirements/Qualifications:

- 3 years previous work experience in customer/food service
- Ability to work well on a team while also able to be self-sufficient when working alone
- Passion for local community
- Good work ethic. We don't expect your job to be your whole life, but we are looking for candidates who are excited to be a part of the team and want to do a good job; for themselves, for their teammates, and for the business.

- We are looking for someone who is ideally interested in sticking around for a while, so no temporary Summer hires at this time
