  • YMCA Board of Advisors Profile

Board of Advisors at YMCA of Greenville branches provide strategic guidance, community advocacy, and philanthropic support to advance the mission and goals of the Y.

Board members serve as ambassadors for their branch, engaging in meaningful dialogue and offering insights that strengthen the YMCA’s ability to serve and impact the community. In addition, they play a vital role in identifying resources, fostering community connections, and leveraging their networks to support the Y’s growth and long-term sustainability.

Board of Advisors are selected for their leadership, influence, expertise, and demonstrated commitment to the mission of the YMCA.

Ideal candidates should embody the following attributes:

    Demonstrated Leadership Experience

Candidates should bring proven leadership experience—whether in their profession, community, or within the YMCA—that will strengthen the board and the organization.

    Commitment to the Y’s Mission

The YMCA of Greenville, following the example of Christ, builds a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Candidates should demonstrate a genuine passion for the YMCA’s mission including modeling the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith in their personal and professional lives.

    Engagement with the Y

Candidates demonstrate active engagement with YMCA. This could include personal investment in the Y through membership, program/volunteer involvement, and contribution to the Annual Campaign.  Candidates should also understand the YMCA’s mission, goals, and organizational structure.  This engagement and knowledge foster thoughtful board decision-making, collaboration, and leads to more effective board outcomes that strengthen our community.

    Support the Y’s Impact

Candidates should have the capacity and influence to help generate financial support for the YMCA. This includes personally contributing to the Annual Campaign, encouraging others to give, and helping secure resources that expand the Y’s reach and impact.

    Community Involvement & Representation

A quality board reflects the community it serves. The YMCA seeks board members who represent the diverse interests, experiences, and populations of our service area, helping identify opportunities for growth and fostering collaboration with partner organizations.

    Add Value to the Board

Candidates with influence and visibility in the community bring added value by raising awareness of the Y. Specialized skills, expertise, or professional networks further enhance organizational effectiveness and sustainability.
