Physical Condition: The animal appears significantly underweight with prominent signs of malnutrition. Ribs are visibly protruding, indicative of a prolonged lack of proper nutrition.
Skin and Coat Health: The animal's coat was severely matted inhibiting her ability to walk correctly. There was feces caked to her whole backside as well as matted hair and feces caked onto her vulva, leaving her very susceptible to urinary tract infection. Her ears were also significantly and chronically infected, which was hardly visible until after the matting was removed. There was aural discharge caked on to the matting as well.
Dental Health: Most of Abby's teeth had fallen out, as evidenced by the gingival remodeling and lack of teeth. The remaining molars were in poor condition. Dental neglect can lead to severe pain and discomfort for the animal.
Behavioral Signs: The animal displayed signs of fear and anxiety throughout her stay at our hospital. She was also extremely ravenous when offered food.
