The Brian Schubert Memorial Scholarship fund was established following his passing in 1994. People and organizations contributed to the fund with the hope that Brian’s work in and for agriculture in the North would always be remembered.
Brian graduated from the Ridgetown College of Agricultural Technology in 1966 and later returned to the family farm in in the district of Temiskaming (Kerns Township). Growth and improvements on his farm were always taking place because Brian appreciated the value of new technology and was committed to advancing agriculture in Northern Ontario.
His efforts to improve agriculture went well beyond his own farm. For years he headed the Temiskaming Cattlemen’s Association and spent endless hours working with fellow directors of the Temiskaming Federation of Agriculture.
His time and effort spent as a member of the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario were most valued by him as he worked to introduce new technology to the farming industry for all farmers.
Brian also spent countless hours as co-chair of the Coalition for Northern Ontario Agricultural Development, the group credited with saving the research component at the former New Liskeard College of Agricultural Technology.
Brian was a well-respected farmer and leader. His esteemed agricultural industry colleagues graciously managed his memorial fund for over 20 years. It is currently administered by his family.
