The ADSA Annual Meeting brings together data science practitioners, educators, and researchers from all disciplines to share approaches in data science research and education, with a strong emphasis on responsible data science.
Important Notes:
The 2024 Annual Meeting theme is:
Data Science and AI - Keeping Humans in the Loop
ADSA’24, hosted by the Michigan Institute for Data Science, will draw our focus to humanity in data and AI - humans as data producers and data engineers, humans as AI designers and developers, humans represented in data, and humans as data and AI users and as the beneficiaries or victims of data and AI. We will explore the central role of humans in the data and AI revolution: to maximize its benefits for research and innovation; to ensure that the use of data and technologies and the insights they generate are aligned with our values and priorities; and to ensure that the future workforce are prepared to continue discovery and innovation.
We seek poster and lightning talk proposals on three tracks.
Use the form below to propose a poster or lightning talk at ADSA’24.
Thanks to funding generously provided by Reboot Representation, travel and registration support is available for undergraduate women who meet the criteria below:

Hidden format descriptions:
Topical Session (1 hour): Structured discussion of a particular topic. This session type is particularly useful for developing ideas and collaboration around a theme. Sessions will clearly articulate the issue to be discussed and why that issue is important to research and / or our communities. Organizers will be responsible for framing the topic with a short presentation and initiating discussion.
Short Talks Session (1 hour): Session chairs will be responsible for soliciting, reviewing, and organizing speakers around the topic area. The presenters should be limited to no more than 10-15 min talk time with 5 min Q&A.
Panel (1 hour): Propose to moderate a panel and include a list of suggested panelists. Include a concise description of the topic to be addressed and why it is important to our communities.
(Performance) Art / Autoethnographic Narratives (duration and format may vary): (Performance) art and autoethnographic narratives use artistic expression or narrative to move audiences to action and discussion. Submitted art pieces should indicate how the artist and submitted work communicate the conference theme. Autoethnographic narratives are solo performances that combine the author’s lived experiences with the ideas related to the conference theme.
Short Demonstration/Mini-tutorial (30-60 min): Give a demo of a tool or technique followed by a Q&A session. Please note the desired length for the session in the key elements section. Note: If you would like to propose a demo of a commercial product, please contact us for sponsorship guidelines.
Workshop (½ day or full day): Propose to run a workshop at ADSA’24. Workshops will be held on October 28 ONLY, the day before the full meeting begins. Workshops should be participatory and should have clearly defined objectives and outcomes. Topics may include (but are not limited to): data science and AI tools and applications; educational frameworks; and organizational evaluation and structures. Note: if you would like to propose a workshop for a commercial product or service, please contact us for sponsorship guidelines.
For reference, here are brief descriptions of the types of sessions you may choose from:
Please note: Some sessions will occur concurrently.
Lightning Talk (5 minutes): Propose to give a short (5 minute) presentation on a data science and AI topic of your choice as part of conference lightning talk sessions. Previous years lightning talks have included presentation of research results, pedagogy, domain applications and hardware demos! Accepted lightning talks will be scheduled at a later date.
Poster Presentation (poster session): Propose to present a poster during the conference poster session. The poster session is a great venue for student researchers to present their work, practitioners to share their research, and administrators to share news about their programs and initiatives. The poster session will be judged and a number of awards given in categories that are subdivided by career stage so that students aren’t competing with senior faculty.
