  • Thanks for your interest in our Alembic Resident Artist Program! 

    HINT: It's probably best to prepare materials and finish in one session, or and edit on a separate platform like Google Docs, but here's how to save in-progress apps (no guarantee!)

    Once you fill in at least one field, a "SAVE" button will appear at the bottom. For users who are logged out or do not have a Jotform account, clicking the "Save" button will prompt you to create an account or log in to Jotform. If you don’t wish to create an account or log in, users can click the "Skip Create an Account" link to get the session URL, which you can copy or have emailed to you, which may take a few minutes to go through.

    ALSO, your application is not considered complete until you fill out the demographic information form.

    Overview of important dates:

    • Intent to apply requested by November 20th, 2026
    • Full application due by 11:59pm January 4th, 2027
    • Applicants notified by February 5th, 2027
    • Residency begins June 1st, 2027 and runs through early February, 2028
    • Exact performance dates TBD, but likely the first weekend of February 2028

  • Criteria for Selection

    • The artist meets the eligibility requirements listed below
    • The artist’s work aligns with PWNW’s mission to advance experimentation in contemporary performance and media arts
    • The artist demonstrates a keen investigative spirit and a self-aware intelligent questioning of her or his own process.
    • The artist is specific about areas of exploration, concepts, starting points etc. and is able to help the panel envision the scope, aesthetic, and elements of the proposed work, even if the form of a final product is not concrete at this time.
    • The time spent at PWNW has potential for significant impact on the growth and process of the artist

  • Performance Works NW is collecting demographic information for our use only. This information is used to evaluate the reach and access of our programs for ourselves and for our funders. All internal evaluation and reports to funders will be done anonymously. 

    This information will NOT be made available to the Selection Panel as a part of your application. The Selection Panel will be provided anonymous aggregated data of the full applicant pool.

    Think of the following questions as possible prompts—not as a list of things to tick off. We want to hear about your approach to making work and how it might align with our mission.

    1. What does "experimentation" mean in relation to your process and work?
    You might include any interest in the questioning of artistic form or content, hybridity, open-endedness, exploration, how your process and/or potential project addresses the unknown.

    2. What are your artistic interests desires and/or goals, especially for the residency period?
    Other ways to think about this question: What moves you to make the work you make? What are the concepts, materials, processes, structures, or questions that you are investigating?

    3. What kind of impact do you want this opportunity to provide you? What do you want to get out of it? Could the residency deepen or expand your methodology, movement practice, collaboration, or way of thinking?
    Might it allow you to pursue something outside their established practice?

  • WORK SAMPLE and INFO

    Prepare 1 or 2 samples from a previous completed or current in-progress works, 5-7 minutes total viewing time.

  • You can submit finished work(s), work-in-progress, or a video sketch of work in the studio.

    No trailers or promo reels. Please make sure each cut or section is at least 2 minutes continuous, not jumping around from high point to high point.

    We cannot guarantee that the panel will watch more than 2 minutes of each sample. So choose cue point(s) with that in mind. However, having a longer section available—in case the panel wants to view further—is a good idea!

    YouTube or Vimeo links preferred–or possibly some other online platform. The work should as best as possible represent your current areas of investigation.

    • Year of Premiere + Year of Performance, if different
    • Credits, including your role in the production
    • Viewing points if needed – For example: “Please watch minutes 8-11 of this sample. Or use the above HINT to link to a specific starting point in a longer video.
