Working with Auditory Neuropathy: Perspectives from a Parent, Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist/Certified LSL Specialist

This session is designed for parents to learn about auditory neuropathy from three different perspectives: from a parent, from an audiologist, and from a speech-language pathologist who is also a certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT).

Discussion will include basic criteria for auditory neuropathy, follow-up steps and interventions, and characteristics of spoken language development. A parent of a child with auditory neuropathy will share about the real life experiences of her family as they navigate auditory neuropathy and their unique journey with hearing loss. There will be opportunities to ask questions.

 

	Domitille Lochet, MS, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT  Domitille Lochet is a trilingual doctor of speech-language pathology with 17 years' experience in the field of aural rehabilitation. She has been part of the University of Miami Ear Institute Children’s Hearing Program since 2011.
	Chrisanda Sanchez, Au.D., FAAA Chrisanda Sanchez, Au.D., FAAA, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Audiology and Interim Director of the Children's Hearing Program in the Clinical Research Center of the UHealth Ear Institute at the University of Miami.
	Ellyn McCall, LSLS Cert. AVT Ellyn McCall is a licensed deaf educator, certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist, and the CEO of Hear Indiana. Most importantly, though, she is the parent to a 15-year-old with auditory neuropathy. Seth was born prematurely in 2008 and diagnosed with auditory neuropathy when he was a few months old. Over the years, they have dealt with hearing aids, cochlear implants, fluctuating hearing, and growing up with a disorder that most people don't understand. Now Seth is a sophomore in high school and he has served as class president, is vice president of the Hands and Voices Junior Board, works as a Ninja coach at a local gym, is a leadership camper at Hear Indiana's Listening and Spoken Language Camp, and plays lacrosse on his high school team.
