  • Dear Applicant,

    Covenant Outreach Services, NFP (COSNFP) understands the importance of receiving additional financial assistance to pursue higher education.  We want to help. Therefore, we have created our way of support through the Lula Mae Walker Scholarship Program (LWSP) because you are our future leader.

    We are pleased to invite high school seniors, college and trade students seeking higher education to apply for the Lula Mae Walker Scholarship.

    If awarded, this scholarship pays the recipient up to $1,000 for the first years and depending on our funds we can sponsor the students for an additional year or two in the amount of $500. Each year the student must apply and show proof of attendance and their grades must be C or higher. 

    1. Be a high school senior, college, or trade school student who is a resident of Illinois.
    2. Have been accepted in an accredited trade school, junior college, college, or university.
    3. Have an average grade of C or higher
    4. Demonstrate a need for financial assistance (income verification required)
    5. Incomplete application will be eliminate

    Application Acceptance

    • Submitted a complete application with required documents
    • Met the application deadline
    • Met the scholarship requirements
    • Approved by the LWSP Committee and Board Members

    Reasons for Application Denial

    • Does not meet the scholarship requirements
    • Did not submit a completed application and required documents
    • Did not meet the application deadline
    • Committee and Board did not determine a financial need for the LWSP scholarship

    Scholarships will be awarded based on applicant letter, Zoom interview, application quality, academic excellence (grade of C or higher), community service and activities, and letters of recommendation.

  • LWSP Scholarship Requirements

    Listed below are the requirements needed to complete the application process for the LWSP.

    1. Completed application and signed

    2. Essay – Tell us about you, your family, your goals, your aspiration, your achievements, any obstacles you may have faced in at least 150 minimum words but not to exceed 250 words. 

    3. Two letters of recommendation from either a teacher, church member, or other adults. Recommendations from a relative or COSNFP board member will not be accepted.

    4. Proof of acceptance into a Trade School, Junior College or College/University

    5. High School transcript, if applicable

    6. Proof of current residency

    7. Drivers license or State ID, if the application is accepted

    8. A high-resolution headshot

    9. May require a 2–5-minute Zoom interview

    10. Proof of any grants or scholarships you may have received.   
      Signed photo release form

    Remember! Keep a copy of your application for your records.
