Each individual Board member is expected to:
- Know MARCO’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Spend between 5-10 hours per month attending MARCO board meetings, doing committee work, or attending MARCO events
- Attend, at minimum, two-thirds (66%) of monthly General Board Meetings
- Serve on at least one Board committee
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in Board meetings; committee meetings for those committees on which a Board member serves; and any other meetings intended for Board member participation
- Review RCO certification recommendations from MARCO’s Peer Review Council
- Solicit funds, participate in fundraising campaigns, and open doors for others to raise funds on behalf of MARCO
- Contribute a personally meaningful financial or in-kind donation to the organization annually
- Participate in strategic planning and annual board retreat
- Participate in events (one or two per year) to connect with the recovery community including individuals and funding entities that may support the organization
- Act as an ambassador and steward of the organization by speaking knowledgeably and passionately about MARCO’s mission and its impact on the community
- Faithfully read and understand MARCO’s financial statements
- Keep informed; know what’s going on; ask questions; request information; make decisions based on careful consideration of facts/relevant data
- Serve as an advocate and ambassador by sharing the organization’s mission and work and leveraging connections, networks and resources to support the organization’s goals
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to all internal matters of MARCO
- Disclose any potential or actual conflicts of interest a Board member may have in accordance with the annual conflict of interest statement signed by the Board member
