"Western Mensurationists Lifetime Achievement Award” honors scientists who contributed significantly to the quantitative aspects of Western American forestry. The award aims at researchers who are associated with the Western Mensurationists group and have shaped the forest research of/from the western region of North America.
The selection process starts by nominating a fellow mensurationist. The nomination deadline is May 15, 2024. To reduce the complications of the award process, the nominations also serve as votes. The scientists are subsequently ranked according to the number of nominations. The ranking list is submitted to the Lifetime Achievement award committee which decides if the persons with the largest number of nominations fit the awards criteria. If not, then the next person is considered, and so forth. For the 2024 and 2025 editions of the award, the members of the committee are the previous recipients of the SOMENS Achievement Award, Dr. Kim Iles (the first winner of the award), and the chair of the award committee, who in 2024 is Dr. Strimbu.
