Examples of each type of address are provided below:
Standard (Municipal) Address
A standard address is formed from the municipal street and avenue that the building (or residence) is on. This type of address applies to most cities, towns, villages, and hamlets.
Examples:
12544-106 Street, Edmonton, AB. (or) 180 Rivercrest Drive, St.Albert, AB.
Rural Address
A rural address is for properties outside of hamlets, such as farms and acreages. A rural address is based on the grid system created by Township Roads (which run east/west) and Range Roads (which run north/south).
Examples: 63416 RGE Rd 444 (or) 44402 TWP Rd 635
If the rural location is in a subdivision, it may be given a unit number in addition to the subdivision addresses. If this is the case, we will need to know the address of the subdivision (e.g. 61106 RGE RD 465) as well as the Unit Number (e.g.37).
Example: 37, 61106 RGE Rd 465
Legal Land Description
The legal land description follows a set sequence: quarter section, township, range, and meridian. The designation NW 27-09-25 W4, for example, means the Northwest Quarter of Section 27 in Township 9 Range 25 West of the 4th Meridian.
