Time: 9am to Noon
Where: start at Bentley Rail Trail car park (Bentley/Kyogle Road)
Event Details:
This event will start at Bentley Rail Trail car park - Bentley/Kyogle Road. To get you in the right gear, we will begin the ride with a talk about the ecological landcapes across the Bentley to Casino rail trail section and share the the broader vision of the 'Rewilding the rail trails' proposal.
We will cycle approximately 4km over the hill, where the tunnel is, and stop for a break near the Naughtons Gap Road Crossing where we will get a briefing on the Koala habitat linkage project underway in that zone and contribute a half hour working bee blitz as a contribution to support this project directly adjacent to the rail trail.
The ride will then continue for another 8km of gentle grade to the Old Casino Station and conclude with a lunch (provided) and talk from a Friends of the Koala presenter on the status of Koalas in the area surrounding Casino. We will also have a a brief chat about the environmental values of the Jabiru Casino Wetlands just a few hundred meters away.
There will be a shuttle service for people and bikes leaving Casino 8:30 am sharp for the Bentley Road carpark if you would like to leave your car at Casino allowing for a one way cycle trip (20 mins drive).
There will also be a shuttle service leaving Casino at 12:15 to get a lift back to the Bentley carpark for those that left their cars there.
First in first serve on these shuttle options. Places will be limited so book early.
Alternatively you can choose to cycle back again - approximately an hour at a leisurely pace.
Bring bicycle, helmet, water bottle, snacks and gloves for the 1/2 hr working bee.
Lunch provided - wraps, juices and sweet treats
This event will continue in mild wet weather. Should heavy rain occur it will be rescheduled. If it looks like rain please bring a rain jacket.
