Music Therapists are educated by a four-year accredited college in a music therapy bachelor's degree program or masters equivalency program. This program includes practical experience including a 6 month to 1 year internship. Following internship, the student must pass a board certification exam through the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT) to earn the credential Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC).
Keys for Success, LLC supports the education of interns from various universities and colleges to improve the quality of services in the growing field of music therapy. This form is to determine if you are open to working with an intern. As with your primary music therapist and other services, you have the right to choose a different provider at any time. This includes choosing to stop working with an intern.

Working with an intern means the following:
- My individual or group session will be always supervised by a board-certified music therapist. Near the end of the six-month internship, the supervisor may sit outside of the room, but will always be present in some manner.
- The intern will do the following in this order:
- observe sessions
- co-lead sessions with your primary music therapist
- lead sessions
- facilitate the transition back to the primary music therapist
- The intern will read my music therapy file including history sheet, documentation, quarterly reports, PCISP, BSP, risk plans and music therapy treatment plans
- My personal health information will remain confidential and in compliance with HIPAA and all other Federal and State privacy laws.
- The intern will support me in my sessions by bringing in interventions and music experiences to address my goals
- The intern may support me at quarterly and annual meetings, if I choose
- The intern may write or co-write my reports and may support me in setting new music therapy goals
- I will help the intern learn more about how to be a better music therapist
- I get the chance to make music with someone new
