  • Workshop objectives:
    Open to all honorably discharged Veterans and their families, attendees will learn the art of writing in its many forms and how to improve their writing. They will also have the opportunity to learn many of the business, editorial and publishing skills involved in authorship and the written arts. The Workshop will establish a robust writing community built on mutual respect for the art and group mentorship. Craft classes, critique sessions and guest speaker seminars will provide instruction and advice to help writers establish and achieve their personal writing goals.


    Workshop goal:
    Create one or more polished works ready to be continued to completion or create one or more finished works ready for submission to the National Veterans Creative Arts Festiva Writing Competition.

    Workshop eligibility:
    Membership: All honorably discharged veterans, active-duty service members and their families.

    Some special seminars will be open to the public and free to VAC Writers Workshop members but fee-based for non-members.


    Workshop schedule:
    • Once monthly in-person class for craft of writing elements on the first Wednesday of every month, 2 hours in duration, instructed by Maggie Cubbler and/or Enrique Rodriguez or invited guest instructors. First Wednesday classes are in person at VFW Post 1 and also broadcast via Zoom for members unable to attend live.
    • Once monthly Zoom meeting for critique and mentorship sessions on the third Wednesday of every month, 2 hours in duration, led by Maggie Cubbler and/or Enrique Rodriguez. Third Wednesday sessions are on Zoom.
    • Special speaker seminars will be scheduled as they are developed and speakers confirmed.
