Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Directors of BikeWalkKC.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in our mission to redefine our streets as place for people to build a culture of active living. Depending on response volume we may not be able to respond individually to all who express interest, but we will carefully consider each candidate. The following questionnaire is intended to help us get to know prospective candidates. We ask you to answer briefly, but thoughtfully. All information submitted here will be treated as confidential and circulated only among the BikeWalkKC Executive Director and current members of the Board of Directors.

About Board Service

The board meets in person six times a year at 4:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of even-numbered month.

Term Length

Board terms last for two years. Elections are held in June, with half of the board seats elected each year. Board members may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms, and there is no limit on the cumulative number of terms served.

Where do you ride/walk? What type of riding? Give us a sense of how biking and/or walking fit into your life. If not, that's OK, too. We are also interested in candidates with other life experiences or professional experiences, including intersectional work or interest in topics like housing, health, racial equity, sustainability, etc.

Do you already work to get more people on bikes or improve conditions for walking and biking? Or perhaps other sectors like housing, community development, social action, etc.

Have you served on other nonprofit boards? Been an active volunteer? Do you have any experience with fundraising?

Much of Board membership is about connecting BikeWalkKC with partners, funders, decision-makers, etc. Do you have a network of organizational development connections? Government decision-makers? Local corporations? Institutional funders or foundations? What groups could you help BikeWalkKC reach?

We strive to represent the community we serve (primarily the counties of Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte). This includes diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, life experience, geography of the KC metro area, professional experience, etc.
