The Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) presents different awards that recognize the professional accomplishments of our members. Award nominations are open to all KPCA members.

Aaron Brown Emerging Leader Award

In 1996, The KPCA Board of Directors established the Aaron Brown Emerging Leader Award to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the furtherance of primary health care in Kentucky. Aaron was an extremely effective individual in the CHC movement and services to the underserved.

Nomination Criteria:
- Staff members of primary health care clinics including providers, administrators, clinical support staff and others.
- Board members of member clinics and other volunteers who have given time to promote and improve primary health care services.
- Other individuals not directly affiliated with primary health care clinics who have been consistently supportive of primary care in Kentucky, such as government officials (state, local and federal), educators and others who have made significant contributions toward achieving the goals of the Association.

Lois Baker Exemplary Service Award

Nomination page
Lois Baker was the founding member of KPCA. To honor her, the KPCA Board of Directors created the Exemplary Service Award in her name. To be considered for this award, the nominee must have demonstrated a similar level of commitment, effort and success in increasing access to quality health care services in an underserved area of Kentucky.

Nomination Criteria:
- Demonstrates tenacity.
- Overcame adversity in a hostile environment.
- Served in the healthcare industry "over the long haul."
- Must be recognized by their peers for an unflagging commitment to improving the health of their community.

Joseph E. Smith Award

Nomination page
Named after the longtime CEO of Kentucky Primary Care Association, this award was established in 2019 to recognize the significant contribution to the furtherance of primary care in Kentucky.

Nomination Criteria:
- Must be an organizational member of KPCA.
- Promotes or facilitates the development of health delivery systems.
- Has improved access to health services and information for underserved people through innovative, comprehensive approaches. Factors considered include outreach, preventive health and education, quality and efficiency of care, and strong community support and involvement.

Cherie Judd Spirit Award

Nomination page
The late Cherie Judd was the Chief Financial Officer for Juniper Health, Inc. An award has been recommended in her name by both of her former CEOs at Juniper Health. This award is to be given by KPCA staff to an employee of a member clinic who has gone above and beyond to enhance the success of their organization, meeting their mission and the mission of KPCA.

Nomination Criteria:
- Employee of a member clinic.
- An advocate who has gone above and beyond on behalf of their organization and the patients they serve.
- This can be on behalf of a special project or common goal of the KPCA membership.
- An employee who not only goes above and beyond themselves but seeks to encourage their peers with them.

Chuck Morgan Memorial Award

This award was created in 2022 to honor the late Chuck Morgan, former Chief Financial Officer of Kentucky Primary Care Association. Chuck personified the core values of KPCA through his kindness and dedication to improving primary care access across Kentucky.

Nomination Criteria:
- Employee of a member clinic.
- Health center leader committed to finding creative solutions to improve primary access in challenging financial circumstances.
- Behind the scenes leader who has made a significant impact on an organizational project.
- Health center leader who not only serves their community professionally, but also is committed to serving others in his/her professional life.
- A health center leader with a sense of humor.
