PURPOSE
The West Park Preparatory Summer Day Camp program aims to provide a quality program for children during the summer. The Summer Day Camp program allows children to participate in activities that benefit them emotionally and physically, as well as other creative means of expression and recreation. The goal of Summer Day Camp is to provide the camper with activities that are safe and fun and that allow for positive experiences. Parent involvement is highly encouraged. If you have any suggestions, please contact the Summer Camp director, Jasmin Rembert (754) 226-6715.

STAFF
West Park Preparatory Summer Day Camp staff come from various backgrounds, and each one is selected based on their interpersonal skills and experience with children. All staff are 16 years or older and have some early childhood or recreation experience. The staff is certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
SUPERVISION
All campers will be under the direct supervision of counselors at all times. No persons under 16 years of age shall be responsible for any group of children. No child will be left unattended indoors or outdoors at any time. Only a parent/guardian or individual on the pickup permission slip may check out campers. Picture identification is required at the time of pick up.
Late Pick-Up Policy – All summer campers should be picked up by 5:00 pm. Parents, who are late due to unforeseen circumstances (please call), will be issued a verbal warning. To avoid such situations, we encourage parents to have a backup plan allowing their child/children (with prior approval) to go home with a neighboring parent or a relative listed as authorized to pick up their child from the facility.
The following procedure will be used for parents who violate the pick-up policy.
First Offense – Late charge of $1.00 per child every minute beginning at 5:01 p.m.
Second Offense – Grounds for one-week suspension from the program.
Third Offense- Grounds for dismissal from the program.
Late charges are due no later than the end of the week in which the infraction occurs. Non-payment of late charges may result in suspension of the child/children from the program. We ask parents to be respectful and courteous regarding this policy.
If a child is left and we have not heard from a parent, or if a parent cannot be reached and no one is available to pick up your child, The DFACS office will be asked to come and transport that child to a safe location.
MEDICATIONS
Any medication to be administered must be in a prescription-labeled bottle, and a physician-signed note must state the type of medication, frequency of dosage, and amount to be given. A medication form must be on file. No exceptions will be made to this rule. It is in your child's best interest to have any medications adequately administered.
SICK CHILD
At Summer Day Camp, medical services are minimal. We stock only first-aid medical supplies. If a sick child arrives at camp, we will assume the illness began at home and call you immediately for an explanation. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR SICK CHILD TO CAMP. This is inconsiderate and can spread an infection throughout the group and the camp. We have no facilities in the camp in which to keep a sick child. We should be able to contact you at home or at the alternate telephone number listed on your child’s application so you can come and take the child home. Children who come to camp with dressings are encouraged to have them changed during the day. Please inform us by note if the dressing is not to be changed.
THE WEST PARK PREPARATORY SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP DOES NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR ITS PARTICIPANTS. INSURANCE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE, WE STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU OBTAIN IT BEFORE CAMP.
LUNCH & SNACKS
Campers will be provided breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks daily. If your child decides to bring his/her lunch and snacks, both should be clearly labeled with your child’s name. A morning snack is also needed for the campers.
