The 2025 Western Zone Short Course Championships will be held on February 14 - 17, 2025, in Irvine, CA, hosted by Irvine NOVAquatics.

This decision was approved at the Western Zone House of Delegates in September, 2023, to be more inclusive of California teams - athletes, coaches, officials - in the Short Course Senior Zone experience. The Steering Committee supports an opportunity for this event to be hosted in California, at an earlier date on the calendar, to expand exposure to athletes and teams who have not yet had this event fully available to them, due to the scheduling conflicts of High School Swimming in California.

 

The Steering Committee believes the on-going development of the Short Course Senior Zone meet provides a crucial and much-needed opportunity for our Senior Zone-level athletes, and advocates for this opportunity to be made available to all Western Zone athletes.

The Steering Committee also recognizes that Senior Zone-level athletes are likely to be committed to High School Swimming in their state, which creates a significant challenge to finding one date on the spring competition calendar that makes this event accessible to all of our Senior Zone athletes.

Potentially offering two Short Course Senior Zone meets could be a viable solution. Two meets, held at different times on the Spring calendar, would approximate the current level of athlete attendance at our summer Long Course Senior Zone Championship, with the potential to involve an even greater number of athletes in the future.
