Quarterly Safety Commitment

Safety is at the forefront of everything we do at Dog Adventures Northwest. The following commitments are all included as addendums in the Dog Adventures Northwest Contractor Agreement. Please initial the following statements and sign below.
Contractor Safety

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to carry a car safety kit in the event of a motor vehicle accident or maintenance issue.*
I agree to carry a charged cell phone.*
I agree to refrain from texting or using the internet on my phone while driving unless I have enabled voice controls.*
I agree to make sure that at least one person knows my intended destination before every adventure or petsit, and to share my exact location with someone if possible.*
I agree to immediately leave a situation on the trail or in a client's home if I feel uncomfortable for any reason. I know that Dog Adventures Northwest has my back, and will always support my gut instincts when it comes to leaving a situation that feels unsafe.*
I agree to carry safety supplies that will help to keep myself and other dogs safe in the event of a dog fight, such as a citronella spray.*

General Dog Safety

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to regularly review the pet profile information for the dogs in my care to ensure I am providing them with the care that they need.*
I agree to keep a current pet first aid certification.*
I agree to carry basic first aid supplies.*
I agree to tether or crate all dogs in my vehicle or to request exception to this policy, granted only in writing and with full agreement from the contractor, the client, and Dog Adventures Northwest admin.*
I agree to only ever minimally open my car windows, ensuring that no animal could exit through the window in the event of an accident or a failed tether.*
I agree to keep dogs on leashes or a long-lines until/unless I feel confident in the dog's recall when I am in an off-leash area with a dog in my care.*
I agree to have at least two different forms of identification on every off-leash dog in my care on at least two different pieces of equipment.*
I agree to carry drinking water for the dogs in my care if fresh drinking water from a swiftly-running water source is unavailable.*
I agree to the following precautions when leaving dogs in my vehicle during pick-up and drop-off in hot or cold weather (click to agree):*

For outside temperatures between 70 degrees and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, I will leave dogs in a locked vehicle with all windows open a minimum of three inches for no more than ten minutes; I will not leave my car in direct sunlight if shaded area is an option; I will install reflective shades over any glass that must be left in the sun.For outside temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and above 80 degrees Fahrenheit, I will only leave dogs in a locked vehicle if it is running heat or air conditioning, and will do so for no longer than ten minutes with the air conditioning or heat on (Second set of keys essential.) To facilitate pick-up and drop-off on hot or cold days, I understand that I can ask clients to come to my car if necessary.I agree that all dogs will have access to water.I agree to have a sign in my car's window, listing the conditions inside the car, the my estimated time away from the car, and my cell phone number.
I agree to advocate for the safety and comfort of all of the dogs in my care through clear communication with clients and DANW admin.*

Parasite Safety and Environmental Risk Awareness

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to take the following actions in the event I encounter a dead fish or any other dead animal while hiking (click to agree):*

I will immediately call all dogs away from the animal's location. If it is safe to do so, I will secure all dogs away from the animal and take a photo for future identification.If I discover a dead animal while hiking at Base Camp or any other popular adventure location, I will email crew@dogadventuresnw.com with the location of the animal so that others can avoid the area.If any dog has had any potential physical contact with a dead fish or any kind, I will notify Dog Adventures Northwest admin.If any dog has had any potential physical contact with a dead animal or any kind, I will notify clients to watch out for signs of salmon poisoning or other infections or parasites (decreased appetite, lethargy, weight loss, vomiting, and diarrhea), so that they can take their dog to the vet for testing and treatment.
I agree to carry a tick removal kit and do a tick check on every dog in my care during tick season.*
I agree to notify all clients if a dog in my care has very soft stool or diarrhea, vomits, seems to be physically uncomfortable in any way, or is acting off/strange/different in any way whatsoever.*
I agree to stay educated on the visual signs of cyanobacteria.*
I agree to run like hell if I or one of the dogs in my care disturbs a yellowjacket nest.*

Animal Injury or Emergency

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to take the following actions in the event a dog in my care becomes injured or another medical emergency arises (click to agree):*

Administer basic first aid to stabilize the animal. Remember that the sole purpose of first aid is address any problems that threaten the animal's health while in transit to a professional. Do not attempt to "fix" anything.Call the client. If the animal is stabilized, call the client's cell phone, tell them what happened, and let them know you would like to seek medical care. If there is an issue that can be resolved by the animal's own vet, a client may prefer this option, as they already have a relationship with their own vet, and the care will likely be significantly less costly. Allow the client to call the shots, if there is time to do so.Seek professional care. All vet information is stored in the animal's Time to Pet profile. Phone numbers and addresses of area emergency animal hospitals are in the Contractor Portal. Whether taking the animal to their own vet or to an emergency care facility, be sure to CALL AHEAD to make sure they are ready for your arrival.Call/text the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager. The Dog Adventures Northwest Manager can help with phone calls to vets and/or clients, and can help you follow all emergency procedures.Do not discuss finances or insurance with clients. Please leave all financial discussions for the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager. When speaking with the client, only discuss the immediate needs of the animal and a client's preference for care. If the client wishes to discuss money or the Dog Adventures Northwest waiver, ask them to contact the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager.

Garmin GPS Failsafe Practices

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to put a Garmin GPS tracker on every dog in my care when off-leash and not in a fully-secured area.*
I agree to fully charge all Garmin equipment for its first use of the day, and ensure that there is enough charge remaining for additional use. I additionally acknowledge that battery capacity decreases over time, and agree to monitor battery usage and replace batteries if necessary.*
I agree to confirm the paired connection between the Garmin handheld tracking device and all tracking collars when I arrive at my adventure location, and to do so before opening any vehicle doors.*
I agree to postpone, reschedule, or cancel my adventure if any of my equipment is not functioning properly. *
I agree to update the software on all Garmin equipment on a quarterly basis. *
I agree to do my absolute best to use redundant safety measures in the event of equipment failure or malfunction, such as the use of bear bells, AirTags, alternate ID, and leashes/longlines. *
I know that it is my sole responsibility to seek help if I am not 100% confident in the correct use of my Garmin equipment, and that I will never, ever, ever be judged or made to feel bad by seeking help from Dog Adventures Northwest admin. *

Bite Prevention

While engaged in Dog Adventures Northwest services...
I agree to stand at an angle to a dog that is new to me, keep my distance, and to refrain from sustained eye contact.*
I agree to let a dog come to me if and when the dog is ready for closer contact or physical contact, to pet responsibly, and to make space for consent checks.*
I agree to stay up-to-date on defensive handling skills, so that both I and the dogs in my care can stay as safe as possible.*

Base Camp

While on the DANW-leased "Base Camp" property on Sauvie Island...
I agree to only visit the Base Camp property when I have been scheduled to be there on SHIFTR.*
I agree to keep dogs on-leash when traveling from my vehicle to the inside of the entrance gate upon arrival, and when traveling from the inside of the entrance gate to my vehicle upon departure.*
I agree to proactively reinforce dog recalls with high-value rewards many times throughout my Adventures.*
I agree to keep the dogs in my care under voice control to the best of my ability, and to steer clear of other groups we may see or hear while hiking at the property.*
I agree to pick up all poop I see (from known and unknown dogs) and transport it with me on my hike. I understand that I cannot bag poop and leave it on the trail to pick up later.*
I understand that I may not have any guests hike with me without written approval access one week in advance of my desired visit.*

I fully agree to all statements listed above, and understand that exceptions can only be granted in writing and with full agreement from the contractor, the client, and Dog Adventures Northwest admin. *
