  • What is Grow Local, Eat Local?

    Grow Local, Eat Local is an event being held by the West Wimmera Health Service health promotion team aiming to celebrate the vast amount of produce grown across the Wimmera and Southern Mallee through a cooking competition. If your recipe is chosen you will be contacted and will cook in the final against 2 other people in Nhill in October the 4th. The meals will be judged by Tim Bone who was a semi-finalist in the 2019 edition of Masterchef. The winner of the competition will win a $500 gift voucher which will be confirmed soon!

  • Rules

    -Everything must be used in your recipe

    -Try and limit the cooking and preparation time to an hour or less

    -Make plant-based protein the 'hero'. You can use any plant-based protein you like such as chickpeas, lentils etc, but it must be grown in the region

    -Only a main or entree, not a dessert

    -Judging will include how practical, affordable and healthy the recipe is… and remember this is about growing local, eating local, so think about what you can grow or get here

    -Must live in the Wimmera Southern Mallee region

    -Must be over the age of 18 years to participate

    -There will be a focus on creating a meal that the whole family can enjoy making and eating. Try and ensure that even those fussy eaters will love it!

  • List of ingredients in the boxes:

    -Mount Zero Pink lake salt

    -Dimboola Estate Olive Oil

    -Your chosen plant-based protein

    -Five Ducks Farm tomato and onion relish

    -All of these products MUST be used in your recipe. Everything else is completely up to you, BUT keep in mind that you will be judged based on how healthy it is and ensuring that locally grown produce and plant-based proteins are the 'hero'.
