  • Youth Mental Health Awareness Program Facilitator(Teen Position)

    Position Overview
  • As a BTO Leader, you will play a vital role in raising awareness about mental health issues among your peers. You will assist in creating a supportive environment that promotes mental health education, organizes events, and encourages open conversations about mental well-being.

    BTO program meetings are Tuesdays from 6p-8p and additional days depending on special programs and events.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Program Assistance & Event Organization:
    - Help plan and organize peer lead meetings, and awareness campaigns on mental health topics relevant to youth & teens.
    - Assist in setting up materials, presentations, and activities that promote mental health awareness.

    Peer Support & Education:
    - Serve as a peer advocate for mental health, encouraging students to seek help when needed.
    - Distribute mental health resources, such as pamphlets or guides, and share information on available
    services within the school or community.
    - engage in small group discussions or activities that promote open conversation about mental health
    and reduce stigma.

    Social Media & Outreach:
    - Help create content for social media platforms or newsletters to promote mental health awareness events.
    - Spread the word about upcoming events, workshops, and services through digital platforms, school bulletin boards, and direct communication with peers.

    Collaboration & Teamwork:
    - Work alongside other youth facilitators and mental health professionals to deliver effective programs.
    - Provide feedback on the effectiveness of programs and suggest ideas for improvement.

     

    Qualifications:
    - Age: Must be enrolled in middle or high school.
    - Interest: Strong interest in mental health, peer support, and promoting mental wellness.
    - Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from supervisors or program coordinators.
    - Creative, empathetic, respectful and willing to engage peers in discussions on mental health.
    - Commitment: Willing to commit to regular meetings, event participation, and program activities.

    Work Environment:
    This role will primarily involve working at the MLK community center or visiting partner sites, attending community events and participating in occassional tabling and panel opportunities.
