Insurance can be confusing! Let us know what insurance you have and we'll let you know if we're in-network. Questions? Call 781-239-0100 to discuss in more depth.

  • Important Insurance Information - BCBS

Great news! The Boston Ability Center is "in network" with Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA. The BAC will check your benefits and provide a summary of your benefits to you prior to your evaluation. Parents are encouraged to also call their insurance company to verify coverage.

Additionally, please note that all BCBS plans (including PPOs) now require a prescription from the referring physician in order for services to be covered. A prescription is a written or electronic document stating the need for evaluation and/or treatment for services, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy. Please be sure that your child’s prescription includes the information below. A prescription MUST be on file in order to schedule your child’s evaluation.

    • Facility: Boston Ability Center
    • Service: OT, PT, and/or Speech (please note that feeding services require both an OT and speech prescription, and AAC services require a speech prescription)
    • Tax ID: 06-1827046
    • End date: Please encourage your PCP to not include a visit number on the prescription. If the prescription that you obtain includes a visit number, the prescription will become invalid after your child has had that number of appointments. Please note that it is your responsibility to track visit numbers and obtain a new prescription when out of covered visits. If no visit number is included (preferred), your prescription will be valid for one year from the date your prescription is signed by your physician.

A template of a prescription that you can provide to your referring physician can be found HERE for your convenience.

Prescriptions can be faxed to 781-239-0102 or emailed to frontdesk@bostonabilitycenter.com

  • Important Insurance Information - Mass General Brigham Health Plans

Great news! The Boston Ability Center is "in network" with all Mass General Brigham Health Plans EXCEPT Mass General Brigham ACO and Health Connector Select. We will find out as much as we can about your benefits, but you must also call your insurance provider to verify your plan's coverage for services. Please ask the following:

    • Is the specific service (OT, PT, ST) covered?
    • What is the maximum number of allowed visits?
    • What is your plan year?
    • Is an authorization and/or a referral required?
    • What is your deductible and/or copay/coinsurance amount?

  • Important Insurance Information - Tricare

Tricare plans vary and coverage will depend on your specific plan. The Boston Ability Center has often been able to bill Tricare directly for patients' services, however you must contact Tricare directly to understand your benefits. If you have questions regarding this, please call 781-239-0100 and a member of our team would be happy to discuss this with you!

In the event that services are self-pay, the rate will be $275 for a 1-hour evaluation ($550 for a feeding evaluation) and $165 for each 45-minute therapy session.

  • Important Insurance Information - Wellpoint (previously called Unicare)

Great news! The Boston Ability Center is "in network" with Wellpoint. We will find out as much as we can about your benefits, but you must also call your insurance provider to verify your plan's coverage for services. Please ask the following:

    • Is the specific service (OT, PT, ST) covered?
    • What is the maximum number of allowed visits?
    • What is your plan year?
    • Is an authorization and/or a referral required
    • What is your deductible and/or copay/coinsurance amount?
  • Important Insurance Information - Self Pay

The Boston Ability Center does not work with this insurance company (or this specific plan).

    1. We cannot bill directly for your child's services, and all services will be at self-pay rates of $275 for a 1-hour evaluation ($550 for a feeding evaluation) and $165 for each 45-minute therapy session.
    2. BAC does not have contact with your insurance and will not request prior authorizations, request visit extensions, file appeals, or submit medical records or any additional requirements that may be needed by your insurance. We cannot accept in-network provider exception agreements, in-network payment agreements, or single case agreements with your insurance company.
    3. If you would like to submit for reimbursement directly from your insurance carrier, we will provide you with monthly statements and detailed receipts and upon request, will provide a progress note every 8 weeks. If you choose to work directly with your insurance company, we suggest you contact them prior to services regarding coverage, authorization requirements, deductible and copay/co-insurance amounts, and any limitations your plan may have.
    4. If you have an out-of-network benefit, it is likely that by submitting for reimbursement, a portion of your expenses would be covered by your insurance provider.
    5. If you have questions regarding insurance coverage, please call 781-239-0100 and a member of our team would be happy to discuss this with you!
