Bill & Meredyth Stern Scholarship Application
First generation college students, people of color, and females are encouraged to apply. The application consists of contact information, names of school and school district, two essays, and attaching your school transcript, two letters of recommendation and a resume. Deadline to apply: February 14, 2025.
Essays
First essay: Personal aspirations and goals. Not to exceed 5,000 characters. Describe a significant or rewarding life experience stating your personal aspirations and goals. In the essay give specific details on why you are interested in majoring in the field of environmental science, environmental studies, or a science major or field specifically related to improving wetlands or marine ecosystems. Second essay: Financial need. Not to exceed 5,000 characters. Write a paragraph explaining why your financial circumstances warrant the need for this scholarship.
Materials for submission - Please have the following ready for upload:
1) Your academic record or transcript beginning in the 9th grade. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA. 2) Two letters of recommendation, one letter from a teacher, principal/administrator or a counselor, and one letter from a person who is acquainted with you away from school (i.e., someone in the community who has served as a mentor or similar relationship). 3) A resume summarizing your voluntary community service, awards, extra-curricular activities, including athletics, arts, student council, student clubs or student organizations and/or work experience. Volunteer experience related to wetland or marine ecosystems may be given priority when considering awarding the scholarship.
