  • 1. Permit Conditions & Compliance Requirements

  • By applying for this permit, I acknowledge and agree to the following conditions:

    1. Notification: I will notify Teton County Emergency Dispatch at (208) 776-8200, ext. 1 prior to ignition and again when the fire is fully extinguished. I will provide my last name and burn address when calling.

    2. Hours of Burning: Burning is permitted after dawn and must be fully extinguished before dusk. No overnight burning is permitted.

    3. Supervision & Control: The fire shall be attended at all times by a responsible adult. Adequate means for control and extinguishment (e.g., water supply, tools) must be available on site at all times.

    4. Location & Weather: No burning is allowed within 50 feet of any structure or property line unless approved by the Fire Code Official. Burning is prohibited when wind speeds exceed 10 mph. - The Fire Code Official may suspend or prohibit burning when weather, air quality, or local conditions make it unsafe.

    5. Pile Size and Inspection Requirement: If the burn pile is larger than 8 feet in diameter and/or 8 feet in height, the site must be inspected prior to permit issuance. - To schedule an inspection, call (208) 715-5201.

  • 2. Allowed and Prohibited Materials

  • Allowed to Burn:

    Clean, dry, natural vegetation only (yard clippings, leaves, branches, tree trimmings, weeds).

    Untreated, unpainted, and unstained wood.

    Prohibited from Burning:

    Garbage, including food waste or food preparation waste

    Plastics of any kind

    Dead animals or animal waste

    Junk motor vehicles, vehicle parts, tires, or other rubber materials

     Construction or demolition material, including:

    - Asphalt materials

    - Tar or tar paper

    - Petroleum-based materials

    - Paints or solvents

    - Treated or preserved wood

    - Insulated wire

    Trade waste, including any waste generated by construction, commercial, or industrial activity

    Pathogenic or hazardous waste

  • 3. Liability & Enforcement

  • The permit holder is responsible for all damages, suppression costs, or violations resulting from this burn.

     Any negligence on the part of the permit holder—including, but not limited to, failure to notify dispatch, burning unauthorized materials, or otherwise disregarding permit requirements—may result in cost recovery actions for damages and fire suppression costs.

    Suppression costs shall be determined using the Idaho Cooperative Mobilization Agreement rate sheet in effect at the time of the incident.

    The permit holder agrees to release and hold harmless Teton County Fire Protection District from any liability associated with this activity.

    Failure to comply may result in revocation of this permit, citation, and/or cost recovery for suppression actions.
