Summer is here, which means so is Obon Festival! During this time, family members place flowers and food on the graves of ancestors and friends. They also gather for bon odori or bon dance, a way of expressing gratitude to ancestors and loved ones who are no longer here. As obon occurs in the heat of the summer, participants traditionally wear yukata, a kind of light cotton kimono to dance in.
Whether you love obon or yukata, please join us in the JCCH ʻOhana Room (5th Floor) for Get Ready for Obon! A Yukata Workshop with Allegra Soumei Matsuo Mossman and Chris Chieko Minn from Mei & Kei Kimono-Ya on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
