2) JUROR
Gus Kopriva
A longtime Houston resident, Gus is currently serving as the President of the non-profit Redbud Arts Center. Gus is a curator and co-founder of the Original Art on the Boulevard Program “True North“ (2013) with Chris Silkwood. He is the curator/manager/engineer of the current temporary public art on the Boulevards Program (Heights, Richmond, & others. He is a former corporate Engineering Director and founded the commercial Redbud Gallery in 1999.
Gus is the curator / co-owner of the Kopriva Collection of over 2000 works. He has curated / juried over 200 exhibitions. He has planned, selected, and implemented major exhibitions in 10 foreign venues over the last decade. He is a former Commissioner of Municipal Art for the City of Houston and is a volunteer Professional Consultant Structural Engineer for Houston’s Public Art Initiatives.
3) ENTRY FEE (up to 4 entries) $30 for members; $60 for non members.
If you have volunteered for the VAA in the last 12 months, you may be entitled to a discount. Please contact exhibitions@visualartsalliance.org for a code.
4) AWARDS & CATALOG
• First Place, $800
• Second Place, $500
• Third Place, $400
• Honorable Mentions, $50
Certificates will be presented.
5) SPECIFICATIONS
A maximum of four (4) entries may be submitted. Artwork may be created from any media, in both 2-D and 3-D with the exception of video works. Work must not have been previously included in a VAA exhibit. A diptych or triptych is considered a single work. 2-D works must be suitably framed or edge-finished and may not be larger than 48" (including frame). Sculptures cannot exceed 48" and must have an appropritate base.
Only conventional picture hanging hooks will be used. Works must be framed and appropriately wired. You must read the complete exhibition requirements and guidelines that are available HERE.
6) SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Titles and prices must be included on your entry form and cannot be changed after submission.
Failure to name files in this way will result in disqualification without a refund.
READ CLOSELY: Image file names should be "Last Name, Entry 1, title.jpg", Last Name, Entry 2, title.jpg", etc.
For example, Bill Jones' first entry entitled Starry Night would look like the following (commas and all): Jones, Entry 1, Starry Night.jpg
Notifications are done by email. Make sure the phone number and email address you enter are correct and messages from Exhibitions@VisualArtsAlliance.org do not go into your spam/junk box.
7) DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS
Hand deliver works to Reeves Art + Design on Sunday, November 5, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Works not delivered by 10:00 am sharp will not be included. Shipping instructions for those mailing accepted artwork will be provided at notification. Return postage label will be required. VAA will not assume postage fees.
All works must remain on view until the close of the exhibit - No Exceptions. VAA reserves the right to reject any work that is misrepresented or unsuitably framed, wired, etc. Works requiring special hanging or installation must be done by the artist.
8) PICK-UP OF ACCEPTED WORKS
Artists must pick up their work on Sunday, November 17 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.. Work not claimed at that time will be discarded.
9) SALES
VAA does not take a commission on sales. Sales are handled directly by the artist.
10) ELIGIBILITY
This juried exhibition is open to anyone over the age of 18.
11) AGREEMENT
EVERY PRECAUTION WILL BE TAKEN IN HANDLING ARTWORK, HOWEVER, NEITHER VAA NOR REEVES ART + DESIGN WILL ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE, LOSS OR THEFT DURING THE EXHIBITION, OR AS A RESULT OF SHIPMENT. VAA reserves the right to photograph work or use submitted images for publicity purposes. Entering this competition will constitute agreement with all conditions set forth within this prospectus. VAA is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization.
