Guests are invited to explore a behind-the-scenes selection of archival materials related to Latin American and Spain. Selected items will include manuscripts, cartography, library books, and physical artifacts that help us to preserve and interpret the relationship between Spain, Latin America, and New Orleans. A special emphasis will be placed on a book authored by the Spanish Governor of Louisiana, Antonio Ulloa, published in 1772 and specially bound for King Carlos III of Spain, a commemorative medal presented by the state of Louisiana to Gen. Zachary Taylor, commemorating major battles from the Mexican American War, a Mexican Flag flown at the 1884 World's Fair in New Orleans, and a 1905 photo album highlighting a Quarantine Tour United States health officials and representatives of the United Fruit Company took to Panama and Central America after an outbreak of Yellow Fever. HNOC staff will be on site to answer any questions about their collections.
