In order to apply for medical aid reimbursement or coverage, it is necessary for myself as the treating psychologist (Sean Friedman) to share confidential information with your medical insurer.
Primarily, this includes a diagnosis, treatment plan, dates of attendance, and progress reports.
Sometimes I will be required to provide additional clinical information. In such situations, I will make every effort to release only the minimal amount of information about you that is necessary for requested purpose.
It is important that you are aware that your diagnosis will become part of your medical records, which may impact future insurance policies or exclusions.
Although the POPI act prohbits the sharing of your diagnosis, it may be a necessary request in some occupational or other applications, where exclusions may exist (ie military, or US immigration where a “threat to the property, safety or welfare’’ may exist.
