Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills, one of the most important skills we need in life. Makaton supports those who have experienced the frustration of being unable to communicate effectivity and enables individuals to connect with other people and the world around them, opening up all kinds of possibilities.
This initiative aims to gauge level of interest in learning Makaton and is supported and funded by The Executive Office District Council’s Good Relations Programme. Course type and numbers are dependent on availability of budget and resources.
Programme Criteria
- Living and/or working in the Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council area
- Able to commit to the full training offered (failing to complete the course/late cancellations will result in your name being removed from the list and may impact other future training and programme opportunities)
- We welcome applications from all individuals, however, preference will be given to those working/caring for Makaton users
Please note- Expressing an interest does not guarantee you a place. The number and type of courses offered will depend on availability of budget. If courses become available we will contact you to offer a space. Names will be held in chronological order on receipt of expression of interest forms. Spaces for organisations will be limited to x2 per organisation.
