The Alumni Power of Stories Award recognizes an NLC alumni who uses their personal story to not only shift hearts and minds, but policies and structures too. Ideal awardees are alumni who use their platform - whether in-person or digitally - to share their experiences, trials, wins, and lessons learned to highlight a systematic problem and hopeful solution in their communities. Examples include using stories of overcoming and/or dismantling barriers to bring inclusion or access to others, testifying at a government body using personal anecdotes, or writing a book that has shifted the local or national conversation about a topic.
