  • A community organization function (COF) is an event organized by a not-for-profit organization. It is run by volunteers for fundraising or social purposes. Examples include community sports events, wild game dinners, and charitable BBQs.

    Instructions :

    1. Review the COF Information Package to determine if your event qualifies as a COF.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Written permission from AHS is required for community organization events lasting longer than 2 days.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: You have indicated that you intend to host a wild game dinner. In addition to the conditions listed for a COF, the organizer of this event is responsible for ensuring the following criteria are also met:

    1. Wild game must be donated by members of the non-for-profit group hosting the COF.
    2. Wild game must have been harvested within one year of the event.
    3. Tag numbers from donated wild game must be kept for 30 days following the event.
    4. When wild game dinners are open to the public, the patrons must be advised that uninspected wildlife is being served.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Not applicable applies when food service is limited to prepackaged foods only. There can be no cooking, reheating, or processing of food at the event when you select this option. Examples include: handing out bottled beverages, packaged granola bars, or whole fruit.

  • Volunteer Information

  • It is recommended that all volunteer food handlers complete an Alberta Food Safety Basics course available here. There is no cost to complete this online course.
