About our Retreat:
In January, Pope Francis announced that 2024 will be the Year of Prayer in preparation for the Jubilee Year of 2025. The Year of Prayer is dedicated to rediscovering the great value and absolute need for prayer in our personal life, in the life of the Church, and in the world.
Jesus said: “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31) This retreat will be an opportunity to answer the Lord’s summons and give God the joy of time devoted to letting Him love us so that we may share His love with all those whom we meet and serve. Both Martha and Mary will be our guides as we explore the source of our twofold call to listen and serve.
Pope Francis recently explained:
“St. Teresa of Avila was convinced that the mystical and interior union with which God unites the soul to Himself, as if 'sealing' it with His love, permeates and transforms our entire life, without separating us from daily occupations or suggesting an escape into the things of the spirit. Teresa affirms that a time dedicated to silence and prayer is necessary, which must be understood as a source of the apostolate and of all those daily tasks that the Lord asks of us to serve the Church. She, in fact, affirms: 'Martha and Mary must walk together to host the Lord and always have Him with them, and do not give Him bad hospitality by not giving Him food. How would Mary, always sitting at His feet, give it to Him if her sister didn’t help her?'” (St. Teresa of Avila, Las Moradas, VII, IV, 12)
