Camp Castle Rock is Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming’s most historic resident camp property. Castle Rock is a former mining claim, named after a boulder outcrop on a nearby hillside, and was donated to Girl Scouts in 1924. Fundraising for a permanent lodge began in 1926 and was built in 1927. Mrs. Lou Hoover dedicated the lodge in May 1927 where the dedication plaque still hangs today.
After its construction in 1927, the lodge regularly served hundreds (nearly 900 girls in 1958) of Butte Girl Scouts annually for decades. 100 years later, Camp Castle Rock remains a pillar within the community and Girl Scouts continues to enjoy many outdoor adventures here. GSMW is dedicated to maintaining the historical integrity of the lodge while making some much needed improvements to the property. Join us in celebrating this historical Girl Scout camp!
