• 2024-2025 DSE PTA Committee Volunteers

Please take a few minutes and select areas in which you would interested in volunteering. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to make this year a success!
  • EVENTS:

All events at DSE are run solely by amazing volunteers each year! Help us make this year a huge success!

Back to School Bash: help secure vendors, plan for decor and volunteer help (MS/HS students)

Fall Fest: Arguably our largest event - help with securing vendors, donations, decor, games, recruiting MS/HS help, class baskets - options are endless, and you can help as little or as much as you have time for! Great option to bring MS/HS helpers to get their hours as well!

Mileage Team: Year-round on Friday mornings. Volunteers will be responsible for handing out popsicle sticks as students complete a lap, and then hand out tokens at the end for every 5 laps completed. You might run a few yourself :)

Field Trip Shirts: Take the class orders, work with a vendor to complete order and organize/distribute field trip shirts to classrooms!

Book Fair: Help our amazing Ms. Miller with setting up, taking down, checking out, or just helping kids shop!

Santa Family Night: The big guy comes to DSE the Thursday evening of Book Fair, and we need your help setting up, providing cookies and snapping pics. Great option to bring MS/HS helpers to get their hours as well!

Culture Fair: Help the DSE staff organize and execute Culture Night

Talent Show: The kids are the STARS, but we need a group of volunteers to plan, decorate and put on the show! Great option to bring MS/HS helpers to get their hours as well!

  • FUNDRAISERS:

Our community is so very giving, so you're just helping us execute these amazing fundraisers.

Spirit Nights: help secure restaurant options and help with marketing

Tiger Spirit Shop: Calling all trendsetters! Help design, order and stock Spirit wear to sell at all major school events.

Fun Run/Boosterthon: Help decorate, secure volunteers and drum up excitement for our major fundraiser - plus, you might get to wear a tutu.

  • ART RELATED:

We have the best art teacher around, but we need your help spreading the artistic bug around the school and classrooms.

Original Artworks: Work with our fundraising team and the DSE Art Teacher to complete an artwork for each student - parents then purchase gifts with the artwork to gift to family members. You'll organize the orders and help deliver the goods!

Reflections: This is a TX PTA initiative where students complete projects based on a theme. You'll market the theme, request submissions be done by a certain date and coordinate with the communications team when winners are selected!

  • EDUCATION-BASED:

Help us spread the love of learning with our student body!

School Supplies: Help us organize and distribute school supply packs to the classrooms ahead of the first day of school. Great option to bring MS/HS helpers to get their hours as well!

Spelling Bee: Work with the staff at DSE to complete the spelling bee at DSE. You'll receive the lists, compile a list of participants and help the staff execute the big event!

Partners In Reading Success (PIRS): Help us read to some students one day a week for 30min! That's it! You'll have the same student every week, so you'll build a relationship and love of reading with the student quickly! Great for parents, grandparents, and community members.

UIL: UIL is a great way for students to compete in their areas of interest with other students in our district and region. You can help with providing snacks on UIL days, judging entries, and working with staff to keep kids involved.

Math Stars: Students will receive weekly math worksheets (for fun and supplemental work) - you'll grab a folder, grade it at home and bring it back in!

Outdoor Classroom: Help lead students in First Grade through hands-on science lessons using our garden.

Science Lab: Work with DSE Science teachers to purchase needed supplies to keep the science lab running smoothly.

Chicken Coop: Be a chicken-tender! Help us take care of the chickens - food and water and special holiday/school closure care. Students learn about the life-cycle of an egg -> chicken in the Spring.

  • COMMUNICATIONS:

Birthday Marquee: Help create the sign up list, maintain record of purchases and weeks to put names on the marquee! Easy work-from-home option!

Yearbook: Join our amazing team of volunteers and help create and complete our DSE annual yearbook!

Bulletin Boards: Monthly or quarterly design and execution of information on our PTA Bulletin Board

Bilingual PTA Liaison: Assist our PTA board in ensuring all communications are given in Spanish, as well as providing a point-of-contact for all bilingual classes and parents.

  • TEACHER/STAFF FOCUS:

Who doesn't love spoiling our staff and helping make their lives easier?

Room Parent Lead: Come to PTA meetings and then share information, flyers and upcoming events with the Room Parents in each classroom

Teacher Workroom: Create a schedule for volunteers to help out in the teacher workroom - making copies, laminating and helping finish tasks

Plan of Works: Each year teachers are given a budget of PTA money to purchase educational and classroom specific items for each grade-level. You would take their lists, purchase the items, organize them for each grade-level and deliver!

Staff Appreciation: Help plan and create monthly "staff love" events - lunches, special snacks, holiday treats...so many fun ways to spoil them throughout the year!

  • WATCHDOGS:

WatchDOGS and Marvelous Moms are one of our favorite additions to the school day!

Scheduling Lead: Help create the sign-up, monitor cancellations/requests and make sure staff knows who is on deck to volunteer!

Apparel: Store shirts for distribution, and make sure Dads/Moms are representing the WatchDOG brand on campus

WatchDOG/MoMs Events: Plan and execute two events per year (ex. Donuts with Dads, Breakfast with Parents, etc)

  • SPECIAL COMMITTEES:

These special committees are one-time per year, and a small time commitment - but are so needed!

Year-End Financial Reconciliation: Meet with two other volunteers and go over the prior year's books to ensure we are maintaining IRS standards

Nominating Committee: Receive candidate information, present candidates for vote, and confirm new PTA Board members in April

Graduating Senior Scholarships: Each year we award 3 DSHS Graduates (that attended DSE) a $500 scholarship. You will read their resumes, essays and transcripts and award the recipients.

5th Grade Liaison: You'll be the 5th grade Point of Contact for Camp Champions (if staff need any help), help purchase 5th grade shirts for the end of the year, and help compile a team to plan the 5th grade Graduation Party!
