  • Description of Atlas Explorers After School & Camp Days

Atlas Immersion Academy welcomes children Kindergarten through age 12 in its after school program, Atlas Explorers. Atlas Explorers serves to provide a safe, fun, and unique after school and vacation day experience for your child, with a focus on introduction or continuation of either the French or Spanish language, and an exploration of enrichment topics each day of the week. Through games, arts & crafts, theatre, physical education, scientific inquiry and using different languages, we endeavor to be a place of both familiar comfort and enriching stimulation at the same time. After School Enrichment Topics and Presenters will be divided into roughly 10 week segments, for the Fall, Winter & Spring quarters. For instance, every Monday will be one topic for the duration of the Fall quarter, Tuesday a different topic for that same quarter, and so on. We strive to find topics and specialists that appeal to a wide number of children, although we of course can't guarantee that each child will like each topic for a given quarter. As soon as specialists are confirmed for the following quarter, they will be communicated by the Center Director. Children from Portland Public Schools neighborhood schools (Hayhurst & Ainsworth) will be picked up at 2:15pm daily in one of Atlas' 15-passenger "buses". They will be transported to Atlas Gabriel Park, where they will have an afternoon snack and time to relax and engage in free choice activities before beginning their enrichment activity. When PPS has planned early closures, Atlas will pick up Explorers from Le Monde at their scheduled end of day. Children from Le Monde French Immersion Public Charter School (also PPS) will be picked up at 3:30pm daily in one of Atlas' 15-passenger "buses" from Le Monde. They will be transported back to Atlas for a quick afternoon snack, before beginning their specialist session. When Le Monde has planned early closures, Atlas will pick up Explorers from Le Monde at their scheduled end of day. During the week of Spring Break, March 25th-29th, all campuses will operate at reduced operations, and care during this week is not included in regular monthly tuition. The option to attend "Spring Break Camp" will be available for an additional fee. For all other days when school is not in session, or when school is released at half day (Le Monde), your tuition at Atlas includes all day "Camp Day" care (and transportation for Early Release Days @ Le Monde) in a camp- like setting. Regular Specialists may be utilized during these "Camp" or "Vacation" days, or the day may include an entirely different, fun topic, with a field trip or special visitor to Atlas!

  • Atlas Explorers Behavior Expectations

School-aged children should be able to conduct themselves in a respectful and safe manner with appropriate adult supervision and should be capable of following the direction of Atlas staff while in our care. Because Atlas endeavors to be provide an enrichment environment for those learning either French or Spanish, your child's willingness to be exposed to a language other than English, and their overall attitude toward learning new languages and about other cultures, is a must. Although ending a care relationship has the possibility to hurt all parties involved and disturbs a child's routine, Atlas reserves the right to terminate a childcare relationship at any time should you or your child be unable to adhere to Atlas policies and guidelines.

    Financial Policies & Priority Enrollment

Enrollment Priority- As Atlas serves children and their families from infancy through the school age years, we offer priority enrollment in our school age program to families with younger children in our ECE programs. In addition to prioritizing enrollment for families with multiple children at Atlas, we also prefer full-time enrollments over part-time enrollments, for the cohesiveness of the group and the stability of routines, etc. Those who are currently enrolled in Atlas Explorers, and in Atlas Explorers 2024 Summer Camps, will also be given priority over new families. All this said, there are generally always limited part-time spots available, and spots for new families to join. After the priority enrollment deadline has past, enrollment will be equal opportunity to all families. Please indicate which priorty enrolllment indicators apply to your family's situation: Current Atlas ECE Family with younger child continuing at Atlas Former Atlas ECE Family (for children graduating Pre-K this year) Current Atlas Explorers Family 2023-24 School Year Registered for Atlas Explorers Summer Camps 2024
