The Department hosts two events to honor students who completed the MA and PhD.

The Department's Graduate Celebration Event will be on

This celebration is right before the UCLA Doctoral Hooding Ceremony for Summer 2023 to Winter 2024 PhD graduates and PhD candidates who file their dissertation by June 3, 5PM PT. If you meet this criteria, we strongly encourage you to attend as you will be individually recognized for your achievements.

The Department's Commencement Ceremony will be on

This is an optional Linguistics-centered ceremony that will honor both undergraduate and graduate students. If you choose to attend, you will be highlighted with words about your research and achievements as you walk across the stage. We welcome you to attend both events!

Graduation eligibility for both events:
- Students who completed the MA Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Winter 2024
- Students who will complete the MA Spring 2024 (by June 14, 5PM PT deadline)
- PhD graduates who filed their dissertation Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Winter 2024
- PhD candidates who will file their dissertation Spring 2024 (by June 14, 5PM PT deadline)
This form is to gather information and RSVPs from eligible students/graduates. Current/continuing graduate students who wish to attend either event must be a guest of a student/graduate who is eligible for either event.

If this form is not submitted....

If this form is not submitted but you complete/d the MA or PhD by Spring 2024, we will share your name, dissertation title (PhD graduates), and Chair/Co-Chair info during both events.

If this form is not submitted and a Public Information or FERPA restriction is in place, your information will not be shared anywhere or announced during the events. Privacy options can be checked on MyUCLA.

FERPA is the most restrictive privacy option. Students can apply or remove a FERPA restriction only through the Registrar’s Office, in person or using the Message Center.
Form Deadline

If you plan to attend the Department's June 13 Graduate Celebration Event and/or the Department's Commencement Ceremony on June 16, please complete this form by May 31 so the Graduate Student Affairs Officer (SAO) can inform your Chair/Co-Chair and try to secure their attendance.

If you plan to attend one or both events but need more time to complete this form, please email the Graduate SAO, Jennifer Banawa (jennifer@humnet.ucla.edu) by May 31 with confirmation that you plan to attend. This form will then need to be submitted by June 5, 12PM PT.

Note: This is a separate event and info request form from the UCLA Division of Graduate Education (DGE) Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on June 13 at 3PM in Royce Hall. PhD graduates who filed in Summer 2023, Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 will receive/d invitations to the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony from DGE beginning in late April. Doctoral candidates who successfully file before or by June 3, 5PM PT will receive an email invitation from DGE.
