Animal Care and Preparation Rule (Fitting/Grooming)
- Animal care and preparations, including grooming and fitting, during the Linn County Fair, is to be conducted by the exhibitor.
- If assistance is needed it may be provided by A-E listed below. Assistance must be aimed at helping the 4-H or FFA exhibitor grow in their project area learning. 4-H Livestock Committee members will be monitoring for youth involvement, experiential hands-on-learning, youth-adult partnerships, and mentoring. Assistance in grooming and fitting may also be provided to keep the show running at a reasonable pace when exhibitor is in back-to-back classes. If a Formal Reasonable Accommodation is on file for an exhibitor, it will supersede all applicable rules.
If assistance is needed exhibitor should seek assistance from:
- Current Linn County 4-H or current Linn County FFA Members (eligible to exhibit at the current year fair).
- FFA Advisors, 4-H Leaders, 4-H Committee Members
- Family Members such as: parent/guardian, siblings, or stepsiblings, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
- Any current Linn County 4-H or current Linn County FFA family whose member is eligible to exhibit at the current year fair may assist other current Linn County 4-H or current Linn County FFA Member.
- Approved nonfamily members may assist with grooming as long as the effort is hands-on and educational in nature. “Nonfamily Helper” Documentation Form must be turned in to the Extension Office by June 1st. Species committee will review submitted documentation for evidence of youth-adult partnerships and youth learning/growth then make a recommendation to Youth Programs Committee. Youth Programs Committee and staff will have final approval. All decisions are final. Families will be notified by June 15th of decision.
No professional paid fitters will be approved for assistance unless they fall into the A, B, C, or D category.
