UTHIVERSE launched the Expedition to help 8th and 9th graders transition into high school, and begin developing a generation of entrepreneurs and innovators, community and civic leaders, and talent for the workforce.
The Fellows identify, promote, and apply critical thinking and action to opportunities that will help them make critical life decisions, break the cycle of generational poverty, and make a difference in their community. The Fellows connect to influential people, organizations, and resources to aid in their growth and develop and ultimately help them maximize their life’s potential.
Year One – Explorers
In the first year of the fellowship students participate as “explorers.” 12 participants in a 40-week adventure of self-discovery, post-secondary readiness, and leadership development.
How it Works:
- Explorers meet Tuesday through Thursday each week for a total of 10 hours per week.
- Explorers participate in highly interactive instruction, project-based learning, and Socratic-style discussions with people that have experience and influence.
- Capstone: During the last four weeks (40 hours) of the year one experience, explorers will propose, plan, and implement a project/initiative that address a community issue that is important to them.
- At the end of the experience each youth develops a slide deck or video presentation highlighting: their potential postsecondary college/career pathway, a plan for their financial future, and a vision for how they will engage in leading in their community. Explorers that plan to pursue entrepreneurship can present a business plan as a part of their presentation.
To successfuly graduate explorers MUST have 90% attendance and complete both the capstone project and their final presentation.
