• Healthway Programs for 2024 Application Forms

  • Gymnastics WA is excited to present gymnastics clubs around the state with the opportunity to participate in multiple events, initiatives and workshops. Our hope with these programs is that they will encourage clubs to continue to build onto these topics and areas, as it is a critical element in athlete's sporting careers.

  • Healthway Healthy Heroes Club Initiative

  • Gymnastics WA in partnership with Healthway are proud to introduce the Healthy Heroes program for 2024, which aims to encourage clubs to lead and implement healthy lifestyle behaviours at their club.

    Clubs are invited to apply for up to $400 to implement healthy strategies at their club in relation to:

    • Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours
    • Promoting healthy eating messages
    • Promoting mental health policies and practices
    • Promoting positive social and emotional wellbeing
    • Promoting environmental sustainability

    Taking part in this initiative will also put your club into the running for the Healthway’s Healthy Heros Club Champion of The Year Award, to be announced at the 2025 Gymnastics WA Awards Night. This award comes with $1500 cash prize for first place and $600 prizes for two runners up. 

    What could your club do with $400? If you've got a great idea, then we want to hear from you. Gymnastics WA will notify you if your application is successful, and after your purchase(s) we will reimburse you for spending up to $400 (proof of purchase from applicants will be required).

  • This funding stream encompasses initiatives for improving mental health and wellbeing.

    This may include (but is not limited to):

    • Organising mental health workshops or training for members
    • Establishing an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or something similar for the benefit of your staff
    • Printing and displaying True Sport's Mental Health fact sheets and resources in key areas around your club
    • Creating opportunities for social inclusion and connectedness
    • Hosting a yoga or mindfulness session
    • Incentives for your club's Mental Health champion

  • This funding stream encompasses initiatives that encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours, increase healthy eating behaviours, and increasing physical activity.

    Your overall health promotion strategy for this funding stream may include the below examples (but are not limited to). *Hint. Choosing four or more initiatives your club will implement as part of a health promotion strategy will strengthen your application.

    • Host a nutrition workshop for athletes as part of a wider health promotion strategy. This will help to educate athletes on the importance of healthy eating and healthy lifestyle behaviours.
    • Adopt a healthy food and drink policy and/or a healthy food and drink catering policy at your club (we can provide you with a policy template)
    • Ensuring free drinking water is available to all members throughout the year as part of a wider health promotion strategy.
    • Displaying Go for 2&5 health message posters and resources around your club as part of a wider health promotion strategy.
    • Purchase healthier prize options as part of a wider health promotion strategy, such as healthy food and drink vouchers for club prizes, awards, and healthy promotion initiatives, such as free fruit giveaways, which are included as part of a wider health promotion strategy.
    • Produce branded water bottles as giveaways to promote healthy hydration behaviours as part of a wider health promotion strategy. 

    Please note: If your club wishes to purchase items, such as catering items or prizes, this will need to be approved in advanced. You will also be required to submit addition information; explaining how this contributes to improving the health and well-being of your club members and community. 

     

    Example of a ‘Healthy Eating’ Health Promotion Strategy:

    Strategies and budget allocation breakdown

    • Allocation towards printing and laminating costs for A3 posters and additional Go for 2&5 resources. These will be displayed in the club house, the kitchen, and staff office. These will help promote healthy eating messages to club members and the wider community ($100)
    • Implement a healthy food and drink policy at our club  ($100 budget will be allocated to appoint a health clubs coordinator, which will be distributes in the form of a voucher or wage subsidy for their hours contributed towards this strategy. This staff member will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the policy. The policy will be upload onto the club’s website and will be promoted through club communications where possible, such as staff comms. This staff member will be responsible for enforcing and monitoring the implementation of the policy over the course of funding period (Maximum funding allocation for this strategy is $100).
    • Purchase free fruit giveaways, which will be handed out to participants during school holiday programs. This will help reinforces healthy eating behaviours and aligns with the promotion of the Go for 2&5 health messages ($200)
    • Purchase 2 x $50 Woolworths ‘Groceries only’ gift cards, which will be used as club prizes – these prizes will be attached to a Go for 2&5 club competition. The aim of the competition will be to encourage health eating behaviours ($100)

  • This funding stream encompasses initiatives for promoting environmental sustainability.

    This may include (but is not limited to):

    • Participating in a Containers for Change scheme to recycle and fundraise
    • Producing co-branded water bottles or other reusable items to give away to members
    • Producing co-branded marquees, umbrellas or some other form of shade for outdoor events
    • Purchasing bins for effective management of waste including recyclable and organic materials

  • Terms and Conditions: Successful applicants are required to provide proof of purchase in order to claim funding. Only purchases towards health and wellbeing strategies are eligible to receive funding. By applying to the funding, successful applicants agree to provide photos and testimonials for marketing and promotional use by Gymnastics WA and Healthway. Clubs have the opportunity to receive this funding once.

  • Gymnastics WA Mental Health Month Award

  • New for 2024, the Mental Health Heroes Program is designed to help affiliated clubs implement mental health initiatives, providing athletes with the resources they need to live healthy lives and perform at their best.

    Successful clubs can claim up to $400 towards spending relating to mental wellbeing. Funding is limited, so we encourage clubs to get their application in early.

    What could your club do with $400? If you've got a great idea, then we want to hear from you. Gymnastics WA will notify you if your application is successful, and after your purchase(s) we will reimburse you for spending up to $400 (proof of purchase from applicants will be required).

    Funding can be put towards a variety of initiatives, (including but not limited to) the below:

  • As part of this initiative, clubs must aim to implement the following policies during or before October 2024:

    • Develop and Implement a mental health and wellbeing policy at their club – template available on Gymnastics WA's and True Sport's websites
    • Developing a critical incident response plan – template available on Gymnastics WA's and True Sport's websites
    • Display ‘True Sports’ mental health resources and posters i.e. where to find help poster, how to help when you feel worries about someone’s mental health poster etc.
    • Clubs must nominate a mental health club champion for the month of October, who will be responsible for implementing and oversees the mental health policy, and work toward increasing mental health
    • Share True Sports mental health resources and videos on their internal channels and website

  • Fuel to Go & Play Workshop

  • Would your club like it's own personalised workshop with the Fuel to Go & Play team?

    In conjunction with Fuel to Go & Play, Gymnastics WA is offering clubs the opportunity for a customised workshop or education session, tailored to your clubs needs. The workshop can cover a number of topics related to healthy eating and fuelling your body, for example it could cover:

    • Education on the importance of healthy eating
    • How to change your behaviours to improve your health
    • Education around fuelling your body, specifically aimed at target audience's needs

    This workshop will be created with your audience in mind, whether it's athletes, coaches, parents or the staff of your club.
